Einleitend werden die verschiedenen Elemente der Theorie der Firma diskutiert. Anschließend werden das Monopol und die grundlegenden Oligopolmodelle erläutert. Auf dieser Basis werden alternative Formen der Kooperation analysiert. Ausführlich untersucht wird ferner die Herausbildung von Marktstrukturen bei exogenen und endogenen Marktzutrittskosten sowie die Taxonomie strategischer Verhaltensweisen bei zweistufiger Konkurrenz. Abschließend werden empirische Anwendungen der modernen Industrieökonomik diskutiert. Im gesamten Buch wird vorwiegend graphisch-verbal argumentiert. Wo für das Verständnis notwendig, wird die Darstellung durch formale Argumente ergänzt. Dabei wurde darauf geachtet, dass die verwendete Mathematik möglichst einfach und leicht nachvollziehbar bleibt. Zur besseren Lesbarkeit werden anspruchsvollere Argumente in Anhängen diskutiert.
