`The essays are thematically well organized and lucidly presented. In terms of design, contents and presentation, this is undoubtedly an excellent textbook' - Journal of Educational Planning and Administration`Education Studies: Essential Issues' is a book similar in style to the editor's first volume 'Introduction to Education Studies', both books introducing a variety of broad educational issues while analyzing certain areas in greater depth. Whereas the first book dealt with wider perspectives on education (i.e. research, politics and policy, psychological theory), this book deals with more specific issues with chapters viewing education through early years and compulsory schooling to post-compulsory and higher education, through to lifelong learning. Ultimately this book is quite unique due to the collection of chapters and is a worthy addition to any university bookshelf or as a key text for mandatory education modules' - Scott Buckler, University of Worcester, for Escalate
`This book is essential reading for all those concerned about education, especially for those working within the education system' - International Journal of Educational Management
`[Education Studies] is an informed and informative introduction. Teachers as well as student teachers will find it stimulating and valuable. Topics it covers well include teacher management and teacher professionalism' - Michael Duffy, Times Educational Supplement
This key text provides an overview of current theoretical issues, areas of study and major themes that are covered in education studies programmes. Chapters include:
- globalization
- differentiation
- early childhood
- special needs
- citizenship and education
- lifelong learning
- post-compulsory education

`This is a really useful book. It is full of helpful ideas and examples and discusses the importance of research for teachers. While addressing both the why and the how of practitioner research in school settings the authors have kept closely in touch with the practical concerns of busy professionals' - Professor Anne Edwards, School of Education, University of BirminghamThis is a book about how to do your research. It's aimed at teachers involved in classroom-based research projects such as Best Practice Research Scholarships and Networked Learning Communities.
This book is a significant text for teachers involved in practitioner research. It will discuss how the notion of classroom research has evolved from previous movements based upon school effectiveness and action research. It will show how being able to conduct and understand research is vital for the professional development of teachers. The text will then consider the practical issues of the design and carrying out of classroom-based research. The book contains practical examples to illustrate points where appropriate. Each chapter includes recommended further reading and practical tasks.

Gloucester Locomotive Sheds is the latest in a series of in-depth studies of motive power depots during the latter days of steam, looking closely at their changing engine allocations and operational responsibilities. At the time, Gloucester was a busy and fascinating rail center where ex-GWR and ex-LMS (Midland Railway) routes met, each with main line passenger and freight services, local passenger trains and extensive freight trips providing an endless panorama of railway activity. The principal ex-GWR Gloucester Horton Road and ex-LMS (Midland Railway) Gloucester Barnwood motive power depots are covered in depth with their locomotive allocations, operational duties and changing responsibilities over the years fully described. Not forgotten are both depots sub-sheds at Brimscombe, Cheltenham Malvern Road, Lydney, Ross-on-Wye, Dursley and Tewkesbury along with the duties and local routes that they covered. This in-depth study is supported by over 200 well-chosen black and white photographs, many of which are previously unpublished, and each of the motive power depots covered are supported by detailed plans of the shed layouts. This new book follows the same authors successful Hereford Locomotive Shed published in October 2017. Further books are planned in the series. - Inbunden, Engelska, 2024

WORCESTER LOCOMOTIVE SHED is the third in a series of in depth studies of Western Region motive power depots. This provincial city was a busy and fascinating rail centre with main line passenger and freight services passing through alongside local passenger and freight tripping duties that together provided an endless panorama of railway activity. The Great Western Railway had a major locomotive depot here and this book takes a detailed look at the shed, how it functioned, its locomotives and its operational duties during the latter days of steam. As well as official records valuable detail and reminiscences have been gathered from former footplate and shed staff ensuring that local custom and practice is well recorded in the story. The depot's sub-sheds at Evesham, Honeybourne, Kingham and Ledbury are also all covered in detail as well as Worcester Locomotive Works.Worcester was also home to the fondly remembered ex-GWR diesel railcars and it was their last operational base at time of final withdrawal in 1962\. Their role in the area is well covered in photographs and words. Taken together the book is both a valuable historical record and a fascinating and readable story of a large motive power depot in the latter days of steam. - Inbunden, Engelska, 2009
