The comparative analysis of Welsh and English found in this book is based on a translation corpus consisting of just over thirty novels and autobiographies from the late nineteenth century up to the early twenty-first century. Many of the original Welsh texts contain stylistic features which, in a context of intense bilingualism with English, benefit from the deliberate discussion and analysis in this volume. However, the work is intentionally descriptive rather than prescriptive, laying out patterns that are observed in the corpus, and making them available to Welsh writers and translators to adopt if or as required. As similarly the classic work in the field by Vinay and Darbelnet, this book examines its topics through the lens of translation techniques such as transposition, modulation and adaptation.

An engaging look at how our life stories can enable us to tell the gospel in a way that connects effectively with people. Jesus was the master storyteller, powerfully relating accessible stories to convey the good news, and Steve Morris calls us to reclaim the art of storytelling in the church today. In a world of increasing social fragmentation and loneliness, this book demonstrates how listening to others can be transformational. When we truly hear people's stories, we begin to feel wonder at life and the way God is at work, and those telling their stories start to feel a sense of belonging. Inspiring stories are grounded by practical ideas to put storytelling at the heart of the church, and questions in each chapter encourage us all to glimpse more of God, revel in our uniqueness and realise that we all have something unique to offer as his followers. Underpinned by practical pastoral experience, this is a book full of quirky and unexpected life stories that open us up afresh to the beauty of life and our God.

What would it be like if church was full of mirth and merriment?Exploring what it would be like to have a more joyous aspect to church, Steve Morris looks at the incarnation, TV’s comedy vicars, comedians, clowns, and unlikely Christian humourists such as Martin Luther and St Francis to encourage us to see church from a different perspective. Catch a glimpse of the infectious optimism of the Celtic Christians through these comforting songs, prayers, poems and devotions as we rediscover the value of community, feasting, singing and the joy of creation. The ancient words of the Celts still sparkle with faith in a personal, ever-present God, whose care is seen in the details of creation, even when they feel endangered. Like them, in troubled times, what we long for is a sense of the nearness of God in our everyday lives. This inspiring book encourages us to see that our true home and safety can be found in God. Royalties from the sale of this book will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Advent is a time of reflection. We wonder about the great theme of darkness and light. We think about what it is to have faith, and to be peaceful and joyful, even when the world seems a dangerous and unreliable place. And we look again at the extraordinary claim that the God who made the heavens came among us as one of us. Based on the Lectionary readings for Year B, these daily thoughts include reflections on beautiful poems, prayers, explorations of Bible verses and questions to ponder. Challenging, thought-provoking and inspirational, these daily reflections will help us to think, pray and be aware of God's presence in new ways this Advent.
