Steven Klein – författare

“Great fashion photography not only understands the beauty of clothing but also adds a twist that grabs the eye and sparks the imagination. With Steven Klein, you’ll give him a dress, and he’ll give you a girl with a dress with a robot in a garden. It’s clever, conceptual, and ultimately lyrical.” —Anna WintourSTEVEN KLEIN: VOGUE is a gorgeous collection of photographs commissioned by Anna Wintour for American Vogue, spanning 2000 to 2019. The book traces the evolution of Klein’s visual language over nearly two decades, showcasing work defined by dark sensuality, psychological intensity, and cinematic staging.Klein’s fashion photography is instantly recognizable for its bold fusion of glamour, eroticism, and psychological drama. His images push beyond traditional fashion spreads, often resembling film stills in their scale and tension.Alexander McQueen, Bjork, Nicki Minaj, and Karl Lagerfeld make notable appearances, but the book is ultimately anchored by Klein’s models—each one commanding the frame as central figures in carefully constructed visual narratives where power, control, and desire unfold. What sets Klein apart is his refusal to idealize—he creates work that seduces and unnerves, inviting viewers into immersive, often transgressive, visual experiences that challenge the conventions of beauty and luxury. This lushly produced, beautiful coffee table book is perfect for browsing, displaying, and gift giving.

As featured in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Vogue, New Yorker, The Guardian, and The Telegraph The first and only monograph on Klein, whose hyperreal and sexually charged images have captivated viewers for 30 yearsOne of the fashion industry's most cunning provocateurs, photographer Steven Klein has created many of the most iconic images of our time. Klein's photographs blur the line between fiction and reality, resulting in stunning tableaux that only exist within his fantastical worlds. Although his images include some of the most photographed people in the world, they disappear into the narrative of Klein's imagination. The book includes images originally published in magazines such as Interview, W, Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, Vogue Hommes, i-D, among many others, and iconic faces such as those of Madonna, Brad Pitt, Kim Kardashian, and Rihanna.Klein has worked with notable clients including Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen, and Louis Vuitton. His work has also been exhibited at galleries and museums globally such as Deitch Projects, Gagosian, and the International Center of Photography, among others. Edited by author Mark Holborn, this first survey of Klein's work showcases his extravagant, hyperreal creations and illuminates his singular vision.

Wherever there are workers, there are unions: and we need them now, more than ever.Whether in formal organisations or grass-roots collectives, people have always found ways to work together for a better world. Today, a historic wave of strikes and union organizing is sweeping the globe – from teachers to Amazon workers, barristers to actors, train-drivers and doctors alike. Dealing with an unprecedented cost-of-living crisis, rising inequality, and rule by some of the richest leaders in history, ordinary people have had enough. And yet many of us have lost the central source of our political power: the union.Union is the first global philosophy and history of trade unions, which shows how the health of our democracies is the health of our unions. Tracing the idea of unions from the ancient world up through the present – from ancient Rome and the historic struggles for workers’ rights in Europe, to the fights for decolonization and against authoritarian regimes in the Global South – and drawing on political theory, social science and current affairs, it challenges our narrow idea of unions to show how they are crucial, not just to achieve better conditions for their members, but a healthier state of democracy for all of us.Union shows us that, if we are to save democracy today, we need a new vision: one that puts the organized power of ordinary citizens at the heart of its rebirth.

The Work of Politics advances a new understanding of how democratic social movements work with welfare institutions to challenge structures of domination. Klein develops a novel theory that depicts welfare institutions as "worldly mediators," or sites of democratic world-making fostering political empowerment and participation within the context of capitalist economic forces. Drawing on the writings of Weber, Arendt, and Habermas, and historical episodes that range from the workers' movement in Bismarck's Germany to post-war Swedish feminism, this book challenges us to rethink the distribution of power in society, as well as the fundamental concerns of democratic theory. Ranging across political theory and intellectual history, The Work of Politics provides a vital contribution to contemporary thinking about the future of the welfare state.
