Antioxidants play an important role in the progression of major human degenerative diseases and conditions. This book covers antioxidants and their mechanisms of action; their role in a whole array of conditions including coronary heart disease, malignant disease, diabetes, cataracts, respiratory disease, cystic fibrosis, cognitive functions, and aging; their indicators for oxidative stress; and consumer issues. The majority of chapters have been developed from papers presented at the 6th World Congress in Clinical Nutrition, held in Banff, Canada, July 1997.

Crossing Borders is a gathering of twenty original, interdisciplinary essays on the paradigm of borders in African American literature, multi-ethnic U.S. studies, and South Asian studies. These essays by established and mid-career scholars from around the globe employ a variety of approaches to the idea of “border crossings” and represent important contributions to the discourses on modernity, diasporic mobility, populism, migration, exile, sub-nation, trans-nation, as well as the formation of nationalities, communities, and identities. Borders, in these contexts, signify social and national inequities and hierarchies and also the ways to challenge and transgress entrenched barriers sanctioned by habit, custom, and law. The volume also honors and celebrates the life and work of Amritjit Singh as a teacher, mentor, author, scholar, and editor over half a century.

The book will focus upon the growth of a Hindi Dalit literary culture at its formative stage in the 1920s and the 1930s, and the significant role played by Swami Acchutanand and Chandrikaprasad Jigyasu, in this process. The book introduces the Dalit public sphere in the United Provinces in the early decades of the twentieth century. It tracks the growth and the development of a Dalit print culture in the United Provinces during the 1920s and the 1930s. The book centres on the figures of Swami Acchutanand and Chandrikaprasad Jigyasu, anti-caste intellectuals, and the most eminent figures in the Hindi Dalit world of letters during that era.The purpose of the proposed book is to rescue Swami Acchutanand and Chandrikaprasad Jigyasu from undeserved obscurity and accords to them the importance that they merit in any chronicle of the Dalit cultural movement in North India.
