Thomas Müntzers Mystik und seine Äußerungen im Allgemeinen sind für seine Zeit gewagt: Seine Theorie des Erlebens des Gotteswortes weit über Luthers sola scriptura hinaus entfremdet den jungen Prediger zeitig von seinem einstigen Vorbild Luther. Es vermischt sich stets mit seinen politischen Ansichten und ergibt so einen eindringlichen und eschatologischen Ruf zur Umkehr nicht nur im religiösen, sondern betont auch im weltlichen Bereich. Müntzer kann sich so einem Anschluss an den Bauernaufstand in den 1520er Jahren nicht erwehren und dies ohne das lutherische Protektorat. Sind seine Schriften bisweilen auch fragwürdig ob ihres Aufrufs zu Gewalt, so sind es doch gerade seine Thesen von der Gegenwärtigkeit des Gotteswortes und seine liturgischen Reformideen, die seinem Werk eine bis in die Gegenwart fortdauernde Lebenskraft verleihen.
