Am Anfang steht eine allgemeine Einführung in die Informatik und deren elementare Grundlagen. Im zweiten Teil werden die wichtigsten Technologien vorgestellt. Hierzu gehören die Hardware, Netzwerke, Betriebssysteme, Dateisysteme, Datenbanksysteme, Softwaretechnik und Datenschutzmechanismen. Als Beispiel für eine Angewandte Informatik wird in Kapitel 3 die Wirtschaftsinformatik eingeführt. Hier werden zunächst die wichtigsten Methoden zur Daten-, Prozess- und Objektmodellierung vorgestellt. Danach werden verschiedene Systemarchitekturen für integrierte betriebliche Anwendungssysteme diskutiert. Den Abschluss bildet eine Einführung in ERP-Technologien und E-Commerce.
