Royal Air Force Germany was the chief operator of the RAF’s Harriers during the Cold War. Its Harrier Force remains the only unit to have routinely taken large numbers of fast-jet aircraft into unprepared fields and woods, operating them in constant readiness for combat. This book, the first of three volumes on the RAF Germany Harrier Force, describes how the aircraft was developed from a simple proof-of-concept prototype into a much more complex war machine, overcoming the extraordinary demands of vertical flight. It tells of the forming of the Harrier Wing at RAF Wildenrath in 1970, and how its people learned the hard way to fly and operate the ‘jump jet’ on base and in the field during those accident-laden early years. Volume I concludes at the end of 1973 when, having proven its capabilities, the Harrier Wing became the Harrier Force.

Royal Air Force Germany was the main user of the RAF’s Harriers during the Cold War. While the Harrier was unique in itself, the Germany-based Harrier Force is still unmatched—no other air force has routinely taken large numbers of fast-jet aircraft into unprepared fields and woods, operating them in constant readiness for combat. The Force was also much more than just the Harrier and its pilots—the deployed Force included engineers, suppliers, cooks, Royal Engineers, Royal Signals, RAF Regiment and many others. This second volume of _The Royal Air Force Germany Harrier Force_ describes the continued development of the Harrier Force at RAF Wildenrath, and its move to RAF Gütersloh in 1977, all with the continual risks of high-intensity training. It covers the Germany-based squadrons’ detachments to Belize and then how the Harrier Force became deeply embroiled in the 1982 Falklands conflict, while simultaneously trying to maintain its support to NATO. The book concludes at the end of 1983 when the Harrier Force had returned to its core Cold War tasks. It also examines the engineering support required by the Harrier, on and off base.

Themen:

Tendering constitutes the transition from the drawing and planning stage to the construction phase. In addition to its economic and contractual dimension, it is also an essential tool for translating design quality into built quality. This volume presents various ways to put construction works out to tender. In addition, it explains in practical terms how to describe construction work and how to prepare all of the documentation required for a complete invitation to tender.Subjects: Allocating construction work; Different ways to specify construction work; The structure of a work specification; Quantity determination; Using invitations to tender to realize plan quality.

The core task of the classic architect, in addition to architectural design and planning work, is management of the construction project: from planning operations and tendering, to scheduling and cost planning and construction management. These important practical tasks are usually only covered during studies by one subject: Construction Management or Construction Economics, and thus treated as less significant. But every architect must master these abilities in order to manage and realize his or her own projects successfully. How are the individual processes interrelated? How are professionals networked? How do the different levels of organization function? Because of tight deadlines and strongly interdependent processes, scheduling is an important prerequisite for successful project implementation. Architects have a duty to control all those involved and to procure their services at the right times.Basics Architectural Project Management brings together the successful individual volumes, Project Planning, Tendering, Construction Scheduling, and Site Management from the student series BASICS into one volume, which is completed by the new, not yet published book Budgeting, and answers in one publication the crucial hows and whys of construction.
