Maailmanrauha on utopia, josta kaikki haaveilevat mutta johon kukaan ei oikein usko. Ihminen on ladattu tunteilla. Neuvottelutilanteissa kielimuuri kärjistää kriisin, kun ihmiset tarkoittavat samoilla sanoilla eri asioita tai puhuvat samasta asiasta eri sanoilla. Syvästi henkilökohtaisessa teoksessaan Timo Honkela hahmottelee idean Rauhankoneesta, joka auttaisi ihmiskuntaa rauhanomaisemman maailman luomisessa. Rauhankone perustuu tekoälyyn, koneoppimiseen ja muihin kehitettäviin teknologisiin menetelmiin. Sen perimmäisenä tavoitteena on lisätä ihmisten välistä ymmärrystä, taltuttaa tunnemyrskyjä yhteisöissä ja edistää oikeudenmukaisuutta teknologian avulla. Tekoäly ei ole tieteiselokuvien kaiken tuhoava äärimmäinen paha. Päinvastoin se tuo toivon paremmasta. Rauhankoneiden avulla ihminen voi nousta tietoisen ajattelun rajoitusten yläpuolelle. Lähestymässä on viisaiden koneiden aika. Professori Timo Honkela on tutkinut tekoälyä ja koneoppimista jo 30 vuotta. Urallaan hän on pyrkinyt monipuoliseen ymmärrykseen mielen, kielen ja yhteiskunnan ilmiöistä. Rauhankone on tekoälytutkijan testamentti, jonka myötä hän haluaa avata elämäntyönsä ihmisten tietoon ja eteenpäin kehitettäväksi.
