Some of the best known African American poems are sonnets: Claude McKay's ""If We Must Die,"" Countee Cullen's ""Yet Do I Marvel,"" Gwendolyn Brooks's ""First fight. Then fiddle."" Yet few readers realize that these poems are part of a rich tradition that formed after the Civil War and comprises more than a thousand sonnets by African American poets. Paul Laurence Dunbar, Jean Toomer, Langston Hughes, Margaret Walker, and Rita Dove all wrote sonnets.Based on extensive archival research, The African American Sonnet: A Literary History traces this forgotten tradition from the nineteenth century to the present. Timo Müller uses sonnets to open up fresh perspectives on African American literary history. He examines the struggle over the legacy of the Civil War, the trajectories of Harlem Renaissance protest, the tensions between folk art and transnational perspectives in the thirties, the vernacular modernism of the postwar period, the cultural nationalism of the Black Arts movement, and disruptive strategies of recent experimental poetry.In this book, Müller examines the inventive strategies African American poets devised to occupy and reshape a form overwhelmingly associated with Europe. In the tightly circumscribed space of sonnets, these poets mounted evocative challenges to the discursive and material boundaries they confronted.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2020 im Fachbereich Informatik - Sonstiges, Note: 1,1, Hochschule Munchen, Veranstaltung: Datenbanken, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Transfer Learning schafft es durch vortrainierte Modelle komplexe neuronale Zusammenhange abzubilden. Aus einem bereits fertig trainierten Korpus konnen Ergebnisse auf neue Themengebiete ubertragen werden. Anfangs wurde diese Technologie hauptsachlich zur Bildanalyse eingesetzt, doch in den letzten Jahren gewann Transfer Learning auch im Bereich der Textverarbeitung immer mehr an Bedeutung. Das Ziel dieser Forschungsarbeit ist es, eine detaillierte Vermittlung des aktuellen Stands der Wissenschaft zu liefern. Hierbei wird neben einem grundlegenden Uberblick uber kunstliche neuronale Netzwerke zunachst ein Verstandnis fur Transfer Learning vermittelt, in dem die Einsatzgebiete, Herausforderungen und Risiken unterschiedlicher Transfer Learning Strategien aufgezeigt werden. Insbesondere wird die spezielle Anwendung BERT ausfuhrlich evaluiert und nicht nur deren Entwicklung, sondern auch die Funktionsweise erortert. BERT, Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers, wurde 2018 von Google veroffentlicht und gilt als Fundament fur eine neue Art der Textverarbeitung. Damit BERT im Kontext der Textanalyse eine objektive Einordnung erfahrt, werden differenzierte Modelle wie Doc2Vec und GloVe unter die Lupe genommen, um zusatzliche Blickwinkel auf Transfer Learning zu erschlie en. Diese einzelnen Modelle konnen mit Hilfe von Benchmark-Methoden untereinander verglichen werden. Dabei werden neben dem General Language Understanding Evaluation (GLUE) Benchmark, ebenfalls Analyseaufgaben, wie SQuAD und SWAG erlautert und die einzelnen Modelle auf deren Rangliste miteinander in Konkurrenz gesetzt. Diese Benchmark-Methoden sind ein Zusammenschluss von einzelnen Ressourcen, die zum trainieren, analysieren und bewerten von Systemen zum Verstandnis naturlicher Sprachen, wie BERT, dienen. Abgerundet wird die Studienarbeit mit einem Ausblick in die Zukunft in der klar Stellung bezogen werden kann, dass Transfer Learning auch in den nachsten Jahren einen hohen Stellenwert im Bereich der Verbesserung und Verbreitung von KI einnimmt. Abschlie end wird eine neue Technologie erwahnt, die eventuell die das Zusammenspiel mit Transfer Learning revolutionieren konnte.

Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Company formation, Business Plans, grade: 1,5, Berlin School of Economics and Law (Berlin Professional School), course: MBA Master Thesis, language: English, abstract: This thesis examines how a software start-up can effectively shape its internationalization process to secure its market position and to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. To formulate possible recommendations, a literature study and a descriptive case study are carried out. The literature review considers the research domains of born globals, or rather, international new ventures, which describe the emergence of young, small and fast internationalized organizations. Furthermore, the literature study also reflects relevant theoretical explanations and frameworks such as: resource-based theory, knowledge-based view, dynamic capabilities, organizational learning, innovation theory, and international entrepreneurship. On this theoretical basis, study propositions are derived, which are then tested against the case study. The study consists of two cases and describes the internationalization process of two software start-ups. The results of the case study are then compared with the study propositions. Deviations are discussed in detail later. Finally, 24 recommendations are made which can support the effective internationalization process of a software start-up.
