“Thomas Struth’s photographs are about making order visible. And with the help of these images, the viewer finds him- or herself better able to grasp some of the many and varied faces of reality.” Photographer Thomas Struth is one of the most acclaimed artists to emerge from Europe in the late twentieth century. With great precision, clarity of color, and an unwavering instinct for composition, he addresses both important photographic motifs and informal, often little-known subjects. Struth characteristically treats the various aspects of his photographs in an even-handed way, a neutrality he also applies to the viewer, for he puts the viewing public on a par with his pictorial world. “Struth poses aesthetically formulated issues that make such an impact not least because they concern us personally and are, above all, crucial to the future of human civilization.” This lavish volume is the most comprehensive study of Struth’s œuvre, showcasing all of the famous series and images: the streetscapes of Düsseldorf, New York City, Rome, China, and elsewhere; the family portraits; the museum photographs; the flowers, plants, and rainforests; and most recently, the studies of science and technology. Struth revisits many of his subjects, adding ever more layers of complexity and interpretation. Essays by renowned curators and critics complete this essential study of one of the world’s major artists. “Struth’s work suspends both belief and doubt and shifts the subject to a bigger picture about the inescapable entanglement of experience and ideology.”

Colorful mastery meets modern rigor Twenty years after the last exhibition of his work, MASI Lugano is dedicating an extensive retrospective and publication to Richard Paul Lohse. This ambitious project underlines the importance of Lohse's work and the central position he occupies in the international art world with his painting and graphic art. With a selection of more than forty paintings from the four key decades of his artistic career, from the 1940s until his death, the authors shed light on fundamental elements of his rigorous methodical approach as well as historical events, social utopias and Lohse's confidence in the expressive power of color.

This book brings to life the artistic and literary community that flourished in Carona, Ticino, from 1968 to 1978. Centered on Swiss artist David Weiss (1946–2012) and his circle of friends, it explores their works, processes, and the communal spirit that fueled artistic experimentation. In the 1920s–30s, Carona attracted figures like Maria Braun, Hermann Hesse, Karl Hofer, Kurt Kläber, Niklaus Stoecklin, Lisa Tetzner, and Lisa Wenger. From 1968 to 1978, Casa Aprile became a gathering place for a new generation of artists and writers. This publication examines the utopian dreams, artistic vitality, and spirit of the era through the work of David Weiss, Esther Altorfer, Anton Bruhin, Maria Gregor, Penelope Margaret Mackworth-Praed, Matthyas Jenny, Urs Lüthi, Meret Oppenheim, Iwan Schumacher, Peter Schweri, and Willy Spiller. Through essays by peers, curators, and critics— drawing from archival materials and oral histories—the book illuminates the artistic community’s legacy, historical context, origins, and evolution while presenting new scholarly findings. The Dream of Casa Aprile reconstructs this collaborative network in a visually rich, playful way, capturing the period’s essence. With texts by Bice Curiger, Stephan Kunz, Virginia Marano, Andreas Schwab, and Stefan Zweifel, and a preface by Tobia Bezzola. Co-published with MASI Lugano in conjunction with the exhibition David Weiss. The Dream of Casa Aprile: Carona 1968–1978 (Sept 28, 2025–Feb 1, 2026). This publication is available in an Italian/German and an Italian/English edition.

Rich in critical contributions and a vast iconographic apparatus, the book traces every stage of Mimmo Rotella's career: from the first abstract works to the informal experiences of the 50s, from the relationship with Pierre Restany's Nouveau Réalisme to the tangencies with Pop Art and his relationship with America.Extensive detail is dedicated to his most famous research, the one revolving around the décollages and the back of posters, but also to Rotella's relationship with cities such as New York, Rome, Paris and Milan, with the critics and his contemporaries. This book is published on the occasion of Mimmo Rotella's centenary, and coincides with the largest ever exhibition dedicated to the artist (Rome, GNAM, 30 October 2018 - 10 February 2019).
