Problem Gambling in Europe is the first book to offer a robust international knowledge base compiled by an interdisciplinary panel of researchers in gambling behaviour. Jugendliche sehen sich mit zahlreichen Entwicklungsaufgaben konfrontiert. Neben spezifischen Risiken im Jugendalter erschweren auch Problemlagen aus dem Kindesalter eine Auseinandersetzung mit diesen Entwicklungsanforderungen. Einige Jugendliche entwickeln in Folge ein Problemverhalten (z. B. Gewalt/Bullying, Happy Slapping, Delinquenz, Substanzmissbrauch, exzessiven Medienkonsum) oder tauchen in extreme Jugendkulturen ein. Autoren aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen stellen in diesem Band aktuelle Erkenntnisse zu Problemverhaltensweisen, zu deren Entstehung und Folgen sowie zu sinnvollen Möglichkeiten des Umgangs dar.

Durch den demografischen Wandel mit einer steigenden Anzahl älterer Menschen rückte in den letzten Jahren die Gesundheitsforschung bezogen auf diese Altersgruppe in das Blickfeld der Forschung. Psychische Störungen und Suchterkrankungen, einschließlich Depressionen und Alkohol- und Medikamentenabhängigkeit, werden im Kontext des Alterns diskutiert. In Deutschland gibt es bisher jedoch wenig Forschung und Prävention bezüglich Glücksspielsucht im Alter, was vor dem Hintergrund der steigenden Popularität des Online-Glücksspiels und der Expansion des Glücksspielmarktes insgesamt erstaunt.Der Herausgeberband basiert auf einem Forschungsprojekt mit dem Ziel, belastbare Erkenntnisse zu Glücksspielsucht im Alter durch verschiedene Forschungsmodule zu gewinnen. Jedes Kapitel kann für sich gelesen werden; das abschließende Kapitel dient der Befundsynthese und führt zentrale Handlungsempfehlungen zusammen.Das Forschungsprojekt wurde vom Bundesministerium für Gesundheit gefördert.
