The SED was challenged three times in 1983: the nuclear confrontation escalated globally, national bankruptcy threatened and a frustrating feeling of stagnation spread among the population. The Stasi reports document overburdened brown coal combines, heated debates on disarmament and the reception of the Green political stars Petra Kelly and Gert Bastian at Erich Honecker's. The small but highly active GDR peace movement was a particular focus of State Security. An ambivalent atmosphere of fear of the future, optimism and impatience becomes tangible in the Stasi reports. The editors: Dr. Mark Schiefer and Dr. Martin Stief are research associates in the Communication and Knowledge department at the BStU in Berlin.

This book offers deep insights into the workshop of both church fathers and their spiritual development: Hieronymus tries his hand at Hebrew conjectures and always new combinations of his Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Old Latin models. He repeatedly enriches the meaning of biblical texts with ambiguous expressions and allusions to Christian and pagan authors. An example of Augustine's intellectual development in dealing with the Job text is his step-by-step clarification of the relationship between prudentia and sapientia. At the same time he expresses himself on topics as diverse as correct consoling, the development of worldly people to Christians and ancient smelting technology. Structurally, the juxtaposition of awkwardly extemporated and carefully composed passages as well as forms of gradually more precise lines of thought are striking. Jerome's ambiguous formulations stimulated Augustine to productive misunderstandings and his own, possibly even more ambiguous expressions.

Where we live is the place where we live and are content. However, ideas about what this place is all about are increasingly wavering. Social changes are accompanied by new demands on living, which are reflected in innovative living concepts and changed living conditions. The latter are by no means just an expression of preferences, but are largely determined by the housing market. Housing is a fundamental right, and yet housing is a scarce commodity. Buzzwords such as gentrification, economization and privatization refer to this tension and are increasingly being expressed in public debates and protests. After all, the question of housing is also a social question, and the question of good living is also a question of a good life. INDES 2/2020 is dedicated to this explosive topic.

The UN heads of state and government meet annually for the World Climate Conference and demonstrate, as clearly as in a prayer wheel-like manner, that a global phenomenon can only be countered globally. And yet it took global student protests to reintroduce ecology as a political issue. And just as immediately they called on climate deniers and all those who relativize the urgency of climate change in day-to-day political business. But even the climate-conscious spectrum is by no means ideologically closed. Environmental protection and climate justice, green growth and socio-ecological transformation - the diversity of topics and catchphrases makes it impossible to suspect a closed trend in the history of ideas behind them. However, precisely for this reason it is worth asking about the origins and lines of conflict, motives and contradictions, continuities and breaks in the ideology of ecologism.
