Of God and Idols: Reflections on Old Testament Political Theology from South of the Border explores the nature and phenomena of the religious life in ancient Israel through the lens of Latin American history, religion, and literature. On the one hand, this lens can provide insights into what we read in the Old Testament and so can be helpful in being aware of and evaluating the relationship between religion and politics today. This is not a full-blown political theology, hence the subtitle: Reflections on Political Theology. On the other hand, one aim of the volume is to underscore the usefulness of a Latin American point of view. Usually scholarship turns east to Europe and misses this contribution.
