The aim of this book is to introduce the use of green solvents throughout chemistry and to provide a comprehensive reference for solvents currently applicable in green chemistry. The first section covers solvents in chemical perspective, and the second section is a guide to green solvents. Overall, this volume defines characteristics of green solvents and their current usage, and explores their importance ecologically and economically. It includes a full range of commercial, industrial, and academic green solvents, and discusses solvents in specific commercial and non-commercial practices. Green Solvents for Chemistry differs from other works on solvents in that only solvents for green chemistry are included along with their chemical properties and toxicological issues.

As the world struggles with sustainable practices and policies regarding environmental protection, green sustainable energy is a key player. The chemistries involving energy production must be efficient but also must evolve and change to meet new restrictions and footprint guidelines. Rather than only being seen as a necessary evil, energy through green sustainable energy (GSE) must become a key piece in the sustainability puzzle. The green sustainable energies presented in this book will demonstrate that progress in science can and should be leading contributors in discussions on environmental science and chemistry. This book:Explains the necessary role of energy in the sustainability of the world in the 21st centuryRecognizes past practices and future potential, guided by global demand and the four drivers: economic, scientific, regulatory, and environmentalPresents a much-needed multi-dimensional approach to the subjectDemonstrates that green sustainable energies can and should be leading contributors in discussions on environmental science and chemistryHighlights new products, processes, applications, and developments in green sustainable energy, which demonstrates how sustainability is adapting in the new age

Circularity marks a paradigm shift from the traditional linear economy to the necessary circular economy. This volume captures the importance of circularity and its critical role in achieving global sustainability. A sustainable circular economy (SCE) is a model of production and consumption, which involves prolonging the lifecycle of existing materials and products as long as possible. SCE addresses global challenges by implementing three base principles: eliminating waste and pollution, circulating products and materials, and regenerating natural resources. Circular development builds a sustainable society through the conservation and use of environmental resources.Circular economy addresses global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution.Illustrates how a circular economy can be a way to mitigate society’s challenges, both in an environmental, but also economic and societal perspective.Describes how circular development becomes a model of economic, social, and environmental production and consumption that can help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)Demonstrates that green sustainable chemistries can and should be leading contributors in discussion on environmental science and chemistry.Highlights new models, processes, applications and developments in circular economics and green chemistry, which demonstrates how sustainability is adapting in the new age.
