Beginning with a Bang! features the shift between the explosive and experimental moment in the Argentine art scene of the 1960s, and the current scene emerging after the extreme crises in Argentina during the last 40 years. In the 1960s, artists explored destruction and dematerialization to propose original contributions to the fields of conceptual and action-based art. Today, artists explore fiction and intimacy as critical strategies to review and rebuild the artistic system. The exhibition catalogue brings together a historical section as well as information of performance-based actions and sound and video works by Argentine contemporary artists: Marina De Caro, Ana Gallardo, Graciela Hasper, Roberto Jacoby and Syd Krochmalny, Fabio Kacero, Fernanda Laguna, Patricio Larrambebere, Eduardo Navarro, Leandro Tartaglia, and Judi Werthein. Included are essays by Ana Longoni, Victoria Noorthoorn, Daniel Quiles, and Gabriela Rangel; manifestos by Alberto Greco, Aldo Pellegrini, Manuel Peralta Ramos and Eduardo Costa, Raul Escari, and Roberto Jacobi, as well as a historical timeline of Argentine art.

Key textile works by Feliciano Centurión, combining folk art and queer aesthetics in 1990s South America Through the embroidery and painting of vernacular objects such as blankets and aprons, Paraguayan artist Feliciano Centurión (1962-96) rendered poetic readings of his youth in the tropics, his experiences of love in the metropolis and his reflections prior to his untimely death from AIDS-related illness.Since his death, Centurión’s work has been largely overlooked, only recently receiving recognition. This book traces the short but vibrant career of a remarkable artist. With essays and reproductions, it attends to Centurión’s stories of the self—his love life, his disease—but also stories of a cultural body searching for a new political expression in a changing world. The book reproduces over 80 key works by the artist, accompanied by numerous details and archival material.

An oral history of the Latin American artists who moved to New York in the late 1960s and pioneered a new conceptualism informed by their migrant experiencesIn the late 1960s and early 1970s, during a time of global cultural and social upheaval, a key group of Latin American artists migrated to New York. Part of the generational shift toward Happenings, Minimalism and Conceptualism, the group worked in conversation with experimental practices while exploring topics of migration, identity, politics, exile, and nostalgia. Drawing from both American culture and the cultures of their countries of origin, their works reflect the unique perspectives—both as insiders and outsiders—that these artists had as newcomers.Conceived as a visual reader with newly sourced and existing testimonies, This Must Be the Place is the first book of its kind to highlight this generation of artists in interviews and primary source material. Organized by themes and illustrated with artworks, photographs and other archival material, the testimonies of these artists offer the reader a dynamic, candid and historically rich memoir of 1960s and 1970s New York.

Charting the history and legacy of Latin America’s melodrama export, featuring archival images and documents as well as fan artThis illustrated reader examines how telenovelas, as both popular entertainment and global commodities, have conveyed Latin American social, political and economic values to national and international audiences. As the most widely circulated cultural product of postwar Latin America, telenovelas have been central to inter-American cultural dialogue, with many productions becoming transnational hits. The volume offers an account of the genre, adopting a multidisciplinary perspective—spanning sociology, anthropology, literature, performance, film and art history—in documenting the histories and ongoing afterlives of a form that remains deeply embedded in Latin American and Latinx culture.Telenovela: A Reader brings together 13 essays by scholars from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, the United States and Venezuela, alongside illustrations of telenovela-inspired artworks. It includes a substantial archival section that highlights the visual and conceptual richness of telenovelas through reproductions of key archival documents.Edited with text by Aimé Iglesias Lukin, Mariano López Seoane. Text by Carolina Acosta-Alzuru, Alberto Barrera Tyszka, Mila Burns, Álvaro Cueva, Samantha Nogueira Joyce, Daniel Link, Cecilia Palmeiro, Omar Rincón, Paul Julian Smith, Rosane Svartman, Liliana Viola, Amy E.
