King of Style II: Dressing Michael Jackson is a lavishly illustrated memoir by fashion designer Michael Bush, as told to acclaimed author David Wild.Michael Bush was stylist, designer, confidante and friend to one of the 20th century’s most influential human beings. With his late partner, Dennis Tompkins, “Bush” (as Jackson fondly called him) was responsible for creating the star’s dazzling stage costumes. Here, he tells how he and Tompkins created Jackson’s garments, from dazzling, dramatic stagewear to the singer’s more amusing whims and fancies – such as jackets that flashed back at ever-present paparazzi to shoes that allowed him to lean at unnatural angles, to crystal-covered “iced” socks and gloves, military-inspired silhouettes - even a crown based on the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom. King of Style II tells the inside story, in Bush’s distinctly conversational manner, of how this creative journey and friendship blossomed, during the pinnacle of Jackson’s global fame. Along the way we gain an unprecedented insight into one of pop culture’s most recognisable creative partnerships.

It is this which makes The Power of Culture so informative and readable. Each year, some of the world’s finest artists, architects, curators and creative minds come together for three days of rich dialogue at the Art for Tomorrow conference. Ai Weiwei, Marina Abramović, Jeff Koons and Rem Koolhaas are a few of the figures who have taken part in conversations led by New York Times journalists.Since the conference was first convened by The New York Times International Edition in March 2015, much has happened in the world: wars and invasions, a global refugee crisis, and a killer pandemic. How do art and contemporary culture reflect the times we live in?That is the question posed by this book, written by Farah Nayeri, a New York Times journalist and long-time Art for Tomorrow moderator. The book is a chronicle of the conference’s most striking moments. It also presents the conference’s current organisers, the Democracy & Culture Foundation, and their ethos: that the arts can – and should – be a force for social change.

We the Forest aims to ‘rewild the imagination’ by opening children’s eyes afresh to the wonder of forests through a meld of science and contemporary artwork. New scientific discoveries show that the interconnectedness of the forest runs deeper than we ever imagined. This title explores how all life in the forest is linked and our own human connection to and dependence on the forest.Engaging text evokes the magic of forests – from how trees communicate to their superpowers of regeneration and protection of the planet – accompanied by commissioned illustrations. Interspersed throughout are arresting artworks inspired by forests from a wide variety of contemporary artists: learn to speak in ‘tree’ with Katie Holten’s tree alphabet, peer through Levon Biss’s lens to see what a giant beetle would look like, or witness the terrible beauty of forest fires in Jeff Frost’s photos. Interactive elements encourage the reader in their own creative projects.

A Year in the Vineyard is a tribute to the cycle of the vine. From winter pruning to vine leaves capturing the energy of the late autumn sun, the narrative is spun through vignettes about activities in vineyards around the globe, accompanied by photographs and background paintings. The book honours seasonal rhythms and rituals without glossing over potential risks, such as hail piercing acres of nascent chardonnay in Champagne or wildfires in the Napa Valley. The hope is that each spread captures a gesture, a step in a dance with the natural world, thus providing an experiential understanding of the axiom ‘wine is made in the vineyard’ and of the notion that fine wines are achieved in tandem with nature, not through triumph over the elements. It also shows wine growers as operating on the front line of the climate crisis, posing questions and offering potential remedies in response to the earth’s changing ecology.
