This collection of humorous essays will have readers chuckling and reading passages out loud to their family and friends. Robin's columns are often about rural life in a humorous clash with modernisation. They celebrate individualism and self-reliance. But mostly they just look at the ridiculous side of everyday events, usually with a family story thrown in. The book includes an engaging foreword by Earl Hamner, creator of "The Waltons".

For centuries barns served many functions: housing for animals, storage for equipment, and graineries. Farmers threshed grain on barn floors, stored hay for feeding livestock in lofts, and sheltered animals in stalls.  To farmers, barns were as essential as the houses they lived in. To many  barns represent tradition, hard work and independence. These associations are just as much a part of the barn as its framework and its roofing. The barn was also the heart of the farm and a vital center of community life. It was a place for dancing, praying, and a place for children to play. For Summers County, West Virginia, the vernacular structures were recalled and a "barn raisin" ensued. The objective of the project was not to raise the sides of a building......but to help raise awareness of the importance of preservation of our barns, the history of our people as well as our libraries.

Perspectives on the journey of a Baseball Parent - From Little League, to the World Series, and everything in-between. From the start in 1989 as parents of then 6 year old Justin Verlander and later his younger brother Ben, and with little background or experience in any type of organised sports ourselves, we had no idea about the turn our lives were about to take when a neighbour from across the street suggested that our son Justin should sign up for Little League Baseball. In our wildest dreams we never would have imagined that 20 years later we would be receiving the Little League Parents of the Year Award in Willamsport, Pennsylvania. This is an honour bestowed annually on the parents of major league stars that played Little League Baseball. After over two decades spent raising two sons who have experienced great success both on and off the field, the term Baseball is Life has become much more than a cliché for the Verlander family. We have been touched by many life changing events that we were fortunate to experience, but often unprepared to handle. Looking back we were often blessed to be surrounded by many people who helped us by providing valuable insight in making decisions and dealing with situations that enabled us to put our boys in the best possible atmosphere to grow and develop their potential; both as athletes and young men. Other times we were just lucky. It was not always clear, that's for sure. This book was written in hopes that other parents raising young athletes can gain something from our experience and look back as we have, knowing that Baseball is a great metaphor for life and that lessons learned last a lifetime.

In the middle of the nineteenth century steam power replaced muscle power as the prime mover of civilisation, and the Industrial Revolution roared across the world. A new World-Cycle, the Machine Age, was born. But in the Southern United States men took up arms against the imperatives of the machine, and their Lost Cause marked the end of the Age of Agriculture. By the editing of contemporary diaries, letters, essays, newspaper editorials, memoirs, histories and official records, and the collation of them into a narrative form, this work attempts to paint a contemporaneous portrait of the storm-tossed Confederacy and the revolution that swept it away. The narrative is written in the spirit of a bard singing the Confederate Epic. As such, it offers a challenge to some long-cherished American myths, and -- to a de jure federated Republic that is in the late stages of transformation into a de facto centralised Democracy - it speaks Truth to Power.

This is a one-of-a-kind, research-based, spiritual-Inspirational, fine art gift book of the highest quality. A molecule gateway invites entry into the light of the astral realm. There, the journey begins through a grand, vignette banquet created to fill your hearts with wonder. This thought-provoking series of vision narratives coupled with acutely sensitive Illustrations, painted by a Master Artist, conveys diverse cultural and spiritual philosophies from around the world, revealing a graceful connection of Oneness in all. The All are One concept portrayed throughout the book, is based on an expanding theory by top-tiered physicists that all living matter exists in one, vast, quantum field of sub-atomic vibrations in the akasha, or space, between matter and that within this virtual, invisible web of life-energy force, all are connected. Like spokes to the hub of a cosmic wheel, universal threads of refined truth flow in an indigenous pattern throughout various belief systems, all ultimately leading to Source. The compilation of these immortal clues has given rise to a unique format, an alliterative, akashic alphabet, tapped from the records of inner, ether consciousness.

On Richmond's Wheel is a book celebrating the long tradition, the sport and lifestyle of cycling and the rebirth of Virginia's capital city as a cycling town. The Messina Strait Bridge, connecting Sicily to mainland Italy, was to be opened by 2018. But, in 2013, after decades of designing, testing, and approving what could have been the greatest construction project of the 21st century, the project was cancelled. Why?

Book de Tour is a collection of my small watercolor and ink paintings from the 2014 Tour de France completed as the race unfolded on my television screen, showing what I believe to be the key moments of each stage. Cycling s an unpredictable sport, and I love to capture and convey its intensity. The key moves, lung-searing attacks and counter-attacks, adrenaline-rushing descents, heart-breaking crashes, set amid the glorious landscapes of England, Belgium, Spain and France chiseled my inspiration to tell the story of this year s race with bold strokes and washes of color.

This book continues my celebration of cycling through my original watercol.ors created while races are being contested on the open road. The 2015 UCI Road World Championships took place on the streets of my adoptive home town of Richmond, Virginia. I created this artwork, from the epicenter of the championships, with everyone eagerly looking over my shoulder as they awaited the climax of the race and the unveiling of the winner of the coveted rainbow jersey. Each painting is presented with my interpretation of the unfolding race, taken from my daily blog posts at www.theartofcycling.blogspot.com. I trust you will enjoy my take on the power and speed, heartbreak and jubliation of professional bicycle racing.

This work offers a contemporaneous portrait of Old Virginia, her unwavering stance on State sovereignty, and her fight to the death to defend the fundamental principle upon which the Republic was founded.

Butterflies and children are a wonderful combination. Add some fun conversation and relationships are made. This book is about the love and creation of butterflies, as well as the joy of childhood imagination and learning. It is my greatest hope that you will enjoy the interaction between a Gramma and her beloved grandchildren and the process of the butterfly becoming a living part of all our lives.

Racing Time is a book of searing intensity shining a healing light into the wounds of loss. Most of all, it is a celebration of life-long friendships with three men -- each outspoken, authentic, and a lover of the out-of-doors. In a period of nine months, Smithwick delivers the eulogies of these three who have been his nexus to the world of steeplechasing and Thoroughbred racing. Written to stand on its own, this is the third of a trilogy, following the memoirs Racing My Father and Flying Change. It continues with the vivid prose and sensory descriptions of the first two books, then takes a different path, delving deeply into the psyche of men, showing one man's love and respect for another, sometimes his anger and disappointment, and always his sense of loyalty and wonder. Smithwick takes the reader through the joy and excitement of shared youthful experiences, into the camaraderie of adulthood, and ends with the clap of a thundercloud calling on us all to live life to the fullest.

Looking for things to throw away to relieve the crowding, after pulling things aside and getting deeper into the dark, damp, cinder blocked room like an Egyptologist, I opened dusty, brown, cardboard boxes with faded writing from magic markers past; boxes unmoved and untouched for 39 years. I was stunned to find a treasure of letters and photographs; some over 100 years old. It was apparent that these boxes came with my grandmother on my mother’s side (Matilda Loepp) from Sioux City, Iowa when she moved in with us in 1980; and they simply stayed there after she passed away in 1982, unchecked and forgotten. I realized that I was, at that moment, the only person who knew of the existence of these pictures; that my mother at 85 years of age and her sister at 88 years of age were the last two people who could solve the mystery of these photos, taken half a century to more than a century ago; I realized that Fate on behalf of the Loepps past, had bestowed on me the family duty of recovering these life stories and passing them on. “…our grandmother in Iowa, Mrs. Loepp, had kept this simple Christmas card with her for the rest of her life from 1964 to 1982. As my parent’s house was her final residence, there were some boxes with her belongings stored in the basement. Only this year did I find this box and discover the things she saved and valued.”

You must live for a cause greater than yourself ~ My father, Edward Michael Luby, Captain, USN, was guided by these words taught to young midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy which he later passed down to my sister and me. I found my cause 40 years ago when I brought two abandoned dogs from the streets of Puerto Rico to the states and began my journey in animal welfare. The Second Chance Animal Refuge Society (SCARS) is a 501 (c) (3) no kill dog shelter located on 50 acres on the edge of the Kansas Flinthills. Homeless and abandoned dogs for miles around are treated for medical problems, exercised, socialized, and eventually adopted to forever homes. If they are never chosen for adoption they remain here where they are cared for and loved. This journey has ushered over 1000 dogs on the road to SCARS. These are just a few of their heroic stories.

During the summer of 1955, death came to town. Reporters circled soon after. Some would snatch tidbits and fly away; others would stay for the full feast. The first body was embedded into the soil of a field of dandelions, grass, weeds, and stalks of volunteer corn. Hidden like a bug crushed by a rolling pin into soft dough. The earth, unlike dough, was more accepting of the intruder. It sipped from the offering before scavengers could deprive it of its due. A herd of cows retreated to a more distant piece of their world of square corners and wire. The human, who provided them hay and a little treat of sweet feed, would become an occasional memory. For now, the body was undiscovered. Not yet noticed by birds or animals, spectators or police. Just a corpse, partially buried in a field.

Jerome Kersey was born in Clarksville, Virginia, which is a small rural community in southside Virginia, and he attended public schools in Mecklenburg County. The thought of playing in the NBA was indeed a dream, requiring a belief beyond the reality of his youth. He became a scholarship athlete at Longwood University, which was just becoming accustomed to “men on campus” for a school that was always known as a state teacher’s college. The combination of athletic maturity, great mentors and coaches and a few good breaks provided Jerome Kersey the means of “Overcoming the Odds” to have a legendary career in the NBA. This book shares his story.

These two essays call attention to the power of money behind the French Revolution, Lincoln's Revolution, the Russian Revolution, and today's "Woke Revolution.' Forget the Constitution; follow the dollar and know the "Truth."

History occupies a paradoxical and problematic place in contemporary American culture.   Numerous commentators argue that we face a growing crisis of historical amnesia and that Americans do not value and support history as much as previous generations.   Imperfect Past, Volume II: More History in a New Light, is a compilation of essays, organized in sections that demonstrate that history is, indeed, more compelling. Bryan is a specialist in Civil War history, and many of his essays cover that crucial event in the American experience. Other essays cover a wide-ranged of topics and insightful essays derived from his long and distinguished career as a public historian. Readers will learn how books changed the course of American history; what makes a president great; and other subjects that will help readers see the past and the present in a new light. Imperfect Past, Volume II, has something for almost anyone who loves history and appreciates it from different perspectives.

Despite a catastrophic injury that leaves a young man paralyzed from the neck down, he overcomes insurmountable odds to live independently. His journey shows the resiliency of the human spirit when life changes in an instant.

This publication is an anthology of selected and edited essays associated with the current culture value set described as The Woke Revolution.
