The current theory for strongly interacting elementary particles QCD cannot account for low energy phenomena. The present theory described in this book aims at replacing low energy QCD and has far more predictive power. Equations of motion for mesons and baryon are proposed, accounting for many basic mesonic data and, presently, a few baryon data. It is supposedly still at its early stage of development.

Malekian introduces two new terms into the system of international criminal law. These are the law of somebodiness and the law of nobodiness. From the lowest to highest level of the provisions of international human rights law, international criminal law, and the Statute of the Permanent International Criminal Court, the philosophical assumption throughout is to preserve the heritage of the body of the law of somebodiness and prevent the imposition of the law of nobodiness. Individuals and groups, regardless of their ethnic composition, possess a certain universal united essence which should not be disregarded, and which should not put them in the position of nobodiness in the legislation of any state. Therefore, the law of somebodiness is the missing ingredient in our legal system, and its existence contributes to the collective good of humanity. The law contests any law which authorises the use of force, the production of weapons for war, or which grants permission to kill under any circumstance. In contrast, the law of nobodiness is a brutal law which violates the rights of human beings, and which may be used to conceal crimes and contribute to the deaths of millions of individuals by presenting the false truth in order to allow the monopolisation of economic resources, the rights of victims, property, and land. The unique and innovative principles of this book establish the right reason for justice in international legal and political disciplines. This book is recommended to all those who are engaged in questions of human personal values as a union of true law. It includes not only students of law and politics, but lawyers, judges, prosecutors, and politicians as well.

Lavoisier is one of the giants of chemistry. In this book, he lays out all of the theories of early chemistry and how to conduct experiments. He ties the old chemistry (alchemy) into the new, and it is here that the kernels of modern chemical nomenclature begin. He is rightfully called "The Father of Modern Chemistry". Anyone who is serious about learning chemistry should read this book.

The origins of Bavaria goes back to the Empire of Charlemagne. Bavaria gained independence from the Carolingian Emperors in 911. It was controlled by the Magyars (10th c.) and the Guelphs (Welfs) (1061-1180). Otto I of Wittelsbach then gained ascendancy, and founded a line which ruled Bavaria as a duchy (1180-1806), then as a kingdom until 1918. It became an electorate (1623). Bavaria suffered in the struggles between Prussia and Austria, but gained strength during the Napoleonic Wars. After leading the smaller states in the struggle against Prussia, it joined the German Empire (1871). During the period of the monarchy under Maximilian I, a united prosperous kingdom was shaped, with Napoleon gaining new lands and the royal dignity for Bavaria. Under Ludwig I, Munich was rebuilt as a classical city, while Ludwig II secured an enduring name for himself as both the patron of the composer Richard Wagner, and for his extravagant building projects. These over time have become one of the biggest and most enduring tourist attractions of the state and its legacy. This study will examine the history of Bavaria through the various stages of its political evolution, and assess its contribution to artistic heritage of Europe. The collections of the Alte and Neue Pinakothek, the Lembach House and other galleries mark an extraordinary achievement, while the opera house represents the celebration of musical drama to a high degree. The palaces of Hohenschwangau, Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Kiemsee remain testament to the sustained realization of an individual's vision of beauty.

Over the course of several decades, successive Israeli empires have systematically perpetrated acts of destruction, humiliation, killings, and mass atrocities against the Palestinian population, exceeding even the atrocities committed against innocent Jews under German Nazism. The people of the State of Palestine have endured profound suffering, culminating in concerted efforts aimed at their complete annihilation with explicit backing from certain Western governments, including those of the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany. These parties have blatantly violated both legal and moral principles established by the United Nations and the International Criminal Court. A comprehensive examination of these atrocities reveals that Zionist policies are designed to entirely displace Palestinians from their ancestral lands. The Israel Defence Forces have progressively enforced measures involving forced emigration and mass deportation of Palestinian populations. Consequently, military authoritarian regimes, arms trade empires characterised by hypocrisy, Zionist hierarchical structures, genocidal economic systems, and occupation empires have become entrenched realities indicating failures within international criminal justice. These failures have led to the brutal massacres of innocent civilians and children. This crisis is further compounded by lawyers, politicians, judges, and prosecutors who, despite identifying as legal professionals, demonstrate moral bankruptcy in their pursuit of status, wealth, and titles within a regime responsible for genocide. Amid this ethical decay among legal practitioners and the widespread infliction of grievous physical harm on millions, victims endure severe injustices. As a result, international criminal justice frameworks-including human rights law and humanitarian law-lose their efficacy in addressing an empire defined by genocide. The scale of this tragedy is profoundly disturbing.

The Psychology of Self-Control reviews evidence that indicates low self-control is among the most important individual risk factors for criminal offending. A developmental pathway that begins with this risk factor and leads to criminal offending is presented, and treatment recommendations for reducing the risk that low self-control poses for criminal offending are discussed. Following this, the authors seek to explain why young adolescents have an increased likelihood of becoming involved in a troublesome youth group. Social developmental, personal, and situational risk factors are combined under the umbrella of an integrated theoretical framework that stresses the importance of the moral sense as an important mediator in the relationship between adverse developmental conditions, juvenile delinquency, and troublesome youth group involvement. The authors also test the interaction between choosing a violent response, the inability to resist temptation, and exposure to scenario-criminogeneity using a web-based randomized scenario study. The results indicate that individuals who are able to resist temptation are unlikely to choose a violent response independent of scenario criminogeneity. In the penultimate chapter, the psychological and physiological components of self-control are explored. Then, the developmental aspects of self-control, with a special focus on adolescence, are briefly presented. In conclusion, this collection reviews recent research from McCarter and Winn about the role of stakes in English auctions over Amazon.com gift cards, consumer products on eBay, and items in the behavioral laboratory. Then, the results of an experiment manipulating stakes in penny auctions are reported.

This book addresses the international criminal law of children, which constitutes one of the major branches of public international criminal law. It brings together the imperative key codes of the international humanitarian law of armed conflict, international human rights law, international criminal law, and international criminal justice in conjunction with the legal statute of children, with a diverse range of methods and positions on the origin of national criminal laws. It proves that children are an especially precious subject of international jurisprudence, and therefore violating their rights in the time of armed conflict is not only a crime of international character, but also an assault against the most elementary, ethical philosophy of universal moral justice. The book also addresses questions relating to the rape, torture, or killing of minors/children in different parts of our globe. The theme of the book condemns various brutal conducts authorized by governments against children both in times of war and of peace such as genocide or recruitment of child soldiers. Through this, the book evaluates the principles of jus cogens and erga omnes which have been constantly violated by various states over the last several centuries up until today. The powerful theory of the book is strongly recommended to all law and public libraries in the world. It should be read by students of law and politics, international lawyers, researchers of criminal law, military offices including peacekeeping missions.

The integrity of international human rights treaties has, regrettably, been compromised and severely undermined by certain rogue governments worldwide through various methods and divergent interpretations. Although these governments are not parties to the Statute of the International Criminal Court, they selectively apply its principles when it serves their interests. This conduct encourages other states to adopt similar practices, frequently disregarding numerous international treaties and human rights obligations for economic, political, and geopolitical advantages. Such behaviour constitutes selective exploitation, enforcement, and intimidation that weakness the major integrity of the corpus of international human rights treaties. This body encompasses international law, international criminal law, international criminal justice, international humanitarian law related to armed conflicts, and international human rights law - all essential components of its framework, which is inherently interconnected with the corpus of such treaties. Nevertheless, many states violently control these treaty provisions to evade legal or criminal accountability before international criminal courts. The selective application of these values is so detrimental that successive administrations exploit the tenets of criminal justice and human rights indiscriminately. Ultimately, these movements result in threats of force, military intervention, or hostile conduct directed towards the targeted governments. The situation suggests that the impact of international human rights treaties has been diminished to mere rhetoric, concealed within the display of hasbara justice. This is also confirmed in the reports of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry.

This book looks at issues concerning the LBGTQ+ community including: a pride guide, the Trump administration’s assault on the LGBTQ community, discrimination in housing and lending, health outcomes for LGBT veterans and the juvenile justice system.

Personality traits are enduring dispositional tendencies commonly defined as “dimensions of individual differences in tendencies to show consistent patterns of thoughts, feelings, and actions” (McCrae and Costa, 2003, p. 25). The broad consensus within the personality literature is that normal or general personality traits can be organised around five higher-order dimensions (John, Naumann, and Soto, 2008). These five personality dimensions are Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to Experience (Openness), Agreeableness and Conscientiousness and they collectively constitute the Five-Factor Model (FFM) of personality structure (McCrae, 2009). This book discusses recent developments and clinical applications of the FFM. Chapter One analyzes five types of personality continuity in three samples of adolescents. Chapter Two explains the personality variables included in the Five Factors Model that influence the negotiation process, with a set of studies that seeks to relate the personality factors included in the model, jointly or partially, with the behaviours displayed by the subjects’ negotiators, seeking, thus, to systematize the theme under review. Chapter Three firstly provides an overview of recent developments about FFM traits and personality pathology and, secondly, it presents a research study that explored the relationships between these personality characteristics. Chapter Four examines early maladaptive schemas and dysfunctional beliefs associated with personality disorders in relation to the FFM.

Oceanography of the coastal zone as an interdisciplinary science has received little attention, as most of the studies focus either on the physical oceanography or on the marine ecosystems, independently. The reef corridor of the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico offers the unique opportunity of doing research on meteorological events which affected currents, water masses and tides, but also the interaction with the many coral reefs found on the study region. The presence of these reefs interacts with the oceanographic processes, for example, by diffracting or refracting the tidal waves at different frequencies. These interactions have consequences on the biological and chemical composition of the water masses and drive the exchange of larvae between the reefs located on the northern, central and southern coast of the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico and even more remote areas such as the Caribbean or Florida. Yet, the oceanography of this region is poorly understood and more so the interactions with the important coastal ecosystems located along the coast. More studies relating oceanographic factors with biological processes in a scenario of global and local changes are needed. This work presents research on open questions dealing with the climatology of cold surges, the movement of water masses and tides, the upwelling and fertilizing process related to a permanent cyclonic eddy and the variability of chemical and biological processes related to the complex hydrodynamics on a coral reef system. One of the main objectives of this book is pointing to the need of interdisciplinary research to understand the process that drives changes on the coastal ecosystems at local, regional and global scales.

This book focuses on the latest developments in psychology research. Chapter One analyzes the self-objectification scale. Chapter Two reviews the personal self-determination of high school students. Chapter Three discusses altruism and prosocial behaviors in LGBT older adults, who had encountered adversity and lack of acceptance in society based on their sexual orientation. Chapter Four proposes a conceptual theoretical framework that presents antecedents of consumers’ desire and engagement in medical tourism practices, as well as outcomes. Chapter Five explores the influence of life-event stressors and perceived stress on the reading performance of college students. Chapter Six investigates the effects of training on knowledge acquisition in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Chapter Seven provides insight into the intrapersonal dynamics that are associated with the development and continuation of sexually abusive behavior in juveniles. Chapter Eight explores which psychological characteristics play a role in the completion and non-completion of treatment by juvenile sex offenders. Chapter Nine identifies the dispositional antecedents of situational anxiety and explains its subscales effects on prediction performance. Chapter Ten reviews sport psychology service delivery preferences of elite athletes from Malaysia and Australia.

A great number of cancer patients will suffer some form of social, emotional or psychological distress and challenges as a result of the disease and its treatment. Unattended, psychosocial issues can leave patients and families ill-equipped to cope and manage their cancer diagnosis and treatment. When psychosocial care is properly integrated into clinical care, it has a direct impact on the patient’s quality of life. Psychosocial aspects must be integrated into routine cancer care. The patient should be screened at their initial visit for psychosocial needs, and survivors should have a treatment plan that includes attention to possible increased anxiety on completing treatment, development of posttraumatic stress symptoms, mixed anxiety and depressive symptoms. In this book, the authors cover clinical, psychosocial and end-of-life aspects.

Every day, people must make choices. Perhaps nothing is as important, however, as what people choose to eat or not eat. While hunger, whether it be a desire to have a feeling of well-being or purely due to habit, motivates many of our choices, and nutrition plays an essential role in our health and how successful we will be in terms of our aging process. The term “nutritional supplements” is generally used to include vitamins, minerals, herbs, meal supplements, sports nutrition products, natural food supplements, and other related products. This monograph, while not an exhaustive compilation of all nutritional supplements available, is meant to guide any reader who is interested in adding quality of life to their remaining years, and perhaps even extending their life span. Whether it is a vitamin, mineral, macronutrient, super food or herb, we have attempted to present the data available (whether anectdotal, based on animal/cellular models, or well conducted scientific studies in humans), to help the reader make a wise choice as to what to include in their diet. This may include a specific food, an ingredient, or nutritional product depending on the person. Having a more successful aging process is up to each individual, and the authors hope this monograph will help to provide an individualized path to success!

Bose–Einstein condensation was discovered in atomic gas systems, where Bose condensate occupies 100% of the total system at zero temperature. Liquid helium systems have been investigated based on the Landau theory, where the superfluid component of liquid helium is background flow. According to the Landau theory, it is doubtful that the superfluid component is a Bose condensate. In experiments, the probability of helium atoms with zero momentum is a few percent of the total liquid helium at ultra-low temperatures. However, the superfluid component occupies 100% of the liquid helium at zero temperature, as macroscopic observations indicate. This new book introduces a quasi-particle representing an eigenstate of the total Hamiltonian.

Lung development is a methodical and coordinated process that culminates in the creation of an organ that contains airways, alveoli, blood vessels, multiple innate and acquired host defense systems, and processes to weaken the harmful effects of oxygen in the environment. By regulating cellular differentiation and branching morphogenesis, vitamin A plays an essential role during lung development. Retinoic acid is required for normal alveolar development and vitamin A administration increases lung's elastic fiber contents at birth. Additionally, several experiments showed that retinoic acid restores alveolar architecture to dexamethasone-treated lungs and maintains alveolar development in lungs treated with an angiogenic inhibitor. This book discusses and presents data on vitamin A and its role in lung development.

Throughout our nation's history, Americans have found the courage to do right by our children's future. Our challenge is clear and inescapable: America cannot be great if we go broke. Our businesses will not be able to grow and create jobs, and our workers will not be able to compete successfully for the jobs of the future without a plan to get this crushing debt burden off our backs. Ever since the economic downturn, families across the country have huddled around kitchen tables, making tough choices about what they hold most dear and what they can learn to live without. They expect and deserve their leaders to do the same. This new book examines the need to face the Nation's current fiscal future, with a look at the economic implications of the long-term federal budget..

Water and energy are inexorably linked - energy is needed to pump, treat and transport water, and large quantities of water are needed to support the development of energy. However, both water and energy may face serious constraints as demand for these vital resources continues to rise. This new book explores the energy-water nexus related to the national and regional effects of increased biofuel production on water resources; thermoelectric power plants and water and oil shale and water resources.

This book provides details about new and exciting ways of administering elections so that each jurisdiction can chart the future of its own system of election administration with the most information possible. In pedagogical fields, there has been increased attention in helping students flourish in science-related occupations. This book centers on metacognitive and self-regulatory practices as predictors of academic achievement. The purpose of Mastering Science with Metacognitive and Self-Regulatory Strategies: A Teacher-Researcher Dialogue of Practical Applications for Adolescents is to provide information on both theoretical and practical understandings of the connection between metacognition, self-regulation, and academic performance. Self-regulation centers on an individual’s behavior to accomplish a specific task through planning, monitoring, and self-reflecting in academic tasks. Based on social cognitive theory, there are three main aspects of self-regulation: a) the triadic social cognitive model, b) the multilevel training model, and c) the cyclical self-regulatory feedback loop model. In addition, metacognitive awareness is essential in these processes with the end goal of heightening academic performance. This book outlines how to integrate metacognitive and self-regulatory strategies within a scientific context. In particular, the work emphasizes transitioning students from novice skill levels to more advanced cognitive development through metacognitive and self-regulatory practices. In addition, relevant context specific strategies and examples are described to promote high levels of science performance in both formal and informal learning contexts, including citizen science activities. Practical examples appear throughout the work in conjunction with theoretical explanations including guidelines related to lesson plan designs, scaffolding, and math integration. Furthermore, these strategies are extended in discussions of advancing at-risk students and promoting STEM career motivation. The overarching aim of Mastering Science with Metacognitive and Self-Regulatory Strategies: A Teacher-Researcher Dialogue of Practical Applications for Adolescents is to highlight the interdependence between motivation, self-regulation, and achievement within a scientific context from a teacher-researcher perspective. This work may be of interest to researchers and college students interested in metacognitive and self-regulatory functions, as well as administrators, practitioners, and parents focused on encouraging student science achievement, and ultimately, STEM career motivation.

The importance of gravitational interaction in the evolution of the Universe as a whole, as well as of the various structures it contains, is paramount and multi-faceted. Despite the fact that electromagnetic phenomena are also involved in our daily activities and that our environment is warmed up by the nuclear interaction to representative temperatures exceeding the average temperature of the Universe by a factor of about 100, the Universe (as far as the spatial distribution of its large-scale structures is concerned) is shaped by gravitational interaction. To start with, the attractive nature of gravitational interaction enables matter to form molecular clouds, and molecular clouds to form protostars, i.e., objects which are held together by their own gravity. Some of these objects are massive enough to squeeze themselves to the level of igniting thermonuclear fusion, transforming the hydrogen in their cores into helium, and thus becoming stars, as was the case with the sun billions of years ago. The gravitational interaction will squeeze some stars to the level of igniting helium and producing higher elements, which is the only way such elements can be formed in the universe. The most massive of these objects will undergo a spectacular phase, experiencing an intolerable pressure imbalance when their cores reach high concentrations of iron. The gravitational interaction will force the core of such stars to collapse. The collapse will trigger a rebounding effect, blasting the outer layers of the star and spewing the elements of life into space. The Earth itself and everything on its surface, be they animate and inanimate beings, are products of a stunning recycling process, remnants of supernova explosions. Gravitational interaction holds together the objects in the solar system. It keeps the Earth at a reasonable distance from the sun and in an orbit which is almost circular, thus restraining the temperature variation on its surface to acceptable levels. It keeps the moon in a stable orbit around the Earth, stabilising the Earth''s rotation on its axis and preventing wobbling, thus enabling convenient conditions for life. This book is about the evolution of the ideas involving gravitational interaction, from the planetary-motion problem and Newton’s Inverse-Square Law to the introduction of Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity, to the latest results obtained from the missions investigating the anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background radiation, and to the implications of these results for the future of the universe. The existing literature on these subjects is either too mathematical or failing to provide the mathematical details. This book treads the midline and aims at providing both aspects. The novel part in this book is the path it treads in time over a period of about five centuries (i.e., from Copernicus to the latest results of the COBE, WMAP and Planck missions), in the size of the gravitating objects (from the level of a typical star to that of the entire universe) and in the magnitude of the gravitational effects (from the standard Newtonian weak-field approximation to Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity).
