A punk with a sampler, a nurse on a mission, a skinhead with a thirst - these three big-hearted locals just want to be left alone to live their lives to the scorching sounds of the Herbert Hi-Fi, but events are clouding their moods. When two friends look sure to clash in deadly fashion, a monster steps out of the shadows and romance looms in the shape of someone who may or may not have been abducted by aliens, some tough decisions are needed. And these decisions will have consequences. London Country is an upbeat tale from the margins. Out here, different rules apply. Anything is possible.

The Seal Club returns with The View From Poacher's Hill, featuring new novellas by Alan Warner, Irvine Welsh and John King. Three literary chums, three more doses of bold contemporary fiction. In Warner's Migration, a reluctant teenager is taken to live on the Costa Blanca by her parents, but despite the villa, pool and palm trees as enjoyed through designer shades, Lily struggles to adapt to her new life in Spain. All is not well in paradise. In Welsh's In Real Life, the dull existence of disenfranchised Edinburgh youths is eased by the more seductive worlds glimpsed on the likes of Instagram. With drugs, porn, junk food and single-parenthood their everyday obsessions, this romping comedy of no manners asks if our onscreen lives can ever compensate for having nothing in real life. Perhaps the dapper Uncle Glen recently returned from Hemel Hempstead has the answer? In King's Grand Union, the arrival by narrowboat of former lorry driver Merlin and his goat Gary attracts a curious crowd to a canalside pub in West London, but with rival football firms represented and a local man on a mission to stop the Devil and his sorcerer from entering the city, the peaceful drink planned may not go according to plan. The View From Poacher's Hill - uncensored and unapologetic.

It is the not-too-distant future and the individual nations of Europe no longer exist. The EU's mission has reached its final stage in the form of the USE, with power fully centralised. This corporate-driven, closet dictatorship promotes New Democracy, its true nature hidden behind fake smiles, easy debt and empty liberal rhetoric. With the cities run by Good Europeans, locals live as second-class citizens. But across Europe resistance groups fight back, and Britain is no different. While presenting a vision of the future, it speaks about today's troubled reality.

A vegan has had enough of the meat and dairy industries. It is time to fight back.

Harry Fabian is a cockney wide boy trying to make it big in the Soho underworld of the 1930s. He is a Flash Harry in an expensive suit, a chancer operating in a cosmopolitan corner of the city where villains, spivs, prostitutes and strong-arm men thrive. But his ambition and reckless nature are pushing him towards more and more extreme acts - and a day of reckoning. Night And The City is a classic work of social-realist fiction that captures the vibrant yet seedy underbelly of London between the world wars.

Strange things happen on social media, such as the almost chance encounter between a London born-and-bred fitness instructor and a drug-fueled Spanish witch. At first Maria Remedios and Martin Cooper share their love for super-dumb, two-chord stomp in private messages, but when they meet magic happens. Maria knows that she and Martin have been lovers in past lives, and sets out to convince the former skinhead that her occult beliefs are true.

An uplifting story of redemption, the realisation of dreams despite prejudice, and an updated, revised Observer Sports Bok of the Year.

British author Martin Knight was born at the end of the 1950s on the outskirts of semi-rural South London. Broken Wafers tells the story of his life on a council estate as he navigates the 1960s and the first half of the 1970s. Knight charts a period when Britain emerged from post-war austerity into a more vibrant, hopeful, comfortable and colourful age. He recalls everyday life in his multi-racial family and the thrill of the gradual arrival of such innovations as the refrigerator, the telephone, the colour television and hormones. Broken Wafers is an unashamed and forensic wallow in nostalgia.

Life on a London council estate leads Conrad on a journey between his ambition, his loyalty to his Jamaican nan, and his need to redeem himself. The suppressed scars of a life under Franco resurface in Laura's traumatic coming of age. British Indian girl Roxy wants something different, but isn't sure what. And inner-city boffin D is looking for more than the dubious distinction of being the younger brother of an accomplished thief. Spanning the decades from the rise of Thatcher to the fall of Lehmann Brothers, this is a darkly comic portrait of lives in miniature flailing around the edges of the bigger questions.
