Established in 1950, Galaxy Science Fiction was a pioneer in Science Fiction magazine publishing. Original editor H. L. Gold was interested in sociology, psychology, and other "soft" sciences, and was also willing to publish humorous and satirical stories.

Science Fiction historian David Kyle commented in his book A Pictorial History of Science Fiction, 1979, that "of all the editors in and out of the post-war scene, the most influential beyond any doubt was H. L. Gold". The editorship of Galaxy passed from H.L. Gold to Frederik Pohl and then to Ejler Jakobsson during the 1960s.

MDP Christmas Classics Series has compiled a collection of four Christmas stories from one of America''s beloved 19th century authors, Louisa May Alcott.

A Country Christmas is a delightfule tale of love and friendship, set in a small country town, where Sophie, a city-dwelling society girl, is spending the Christmas holidays with her "country" relatives.

A Christmas Dream and How It Came True is the heart-warming story of a rich little girl unimpressed and uninspired by the Christmas season until a dream changes her life forever.

A Christmas Turkey and How It Came is a tale of one family''s struggle to provide a traditional Christmas dinner and how hard work and the kindness of strangers can enrich our lives.

The last story, The Abbot''s Ghost, or Maurice Treherne''s Temptation is a Christmas ghost story, full of mystery, tragedy, romance and love.

Mitchell Courtenay, the narrator of this story, had three grave problems—his wife Kathy, who refused to finalize their conditional marriage; the planet Venus; and the Conservationists, commonly known as "Connies" an outlawed organization.

Kathy, a brilliant surgeon, disliked Courtenay''s ideals. As a young star class copysmith in Fowler Schocken Associates, the largest advertising agency on Earth, Courtenay was dedicated to the highest principle of this completely free enterprise society: Sales. Only through sales, he held, could the economy expand indefinitely. Kathy bitterly wanted to know why it had to, a question that, to Courtenay, was little short of commercial heresy.

Courtenay is selected to head the Venus Project, a contract granted by the Incorporated United States of America to develop and exploit Earth''s sister planet.

Danger and mayhem ensue as Courtenay struggles to stay alive. . .
