Did Jesus promote themes of social justice during his ministry-emphasizing liberty to the poor and exploited sectors of society? Did he preach social equality, welfare, loan forgiveness and wealth redistribution? Was he an advocate for racial harmony? Did he see a need for the restructuring of the earthly governments of his day? If so, how do these themes interlace with the traditional Christian creeds of forgiveness of sin, faith, and the salvation of mankind? And if not, how should Christians react to the "social justice" clamor heard around us today? Can we, or should we, apply it to our Christian doctrines?

JUSTICE and MERCY, and the FAITH to be just and merciful, are the major themes found within Jesus' epic Sermon on the Mount. Believe it or not, SOCIAL JUSTICE-Jesus style-is what he presents in his classic sermon. But how does Jesus' "social justice" compare to what we hear today? Is it just good advice, or a call to Christian duty? Might it be a part of our salvation? Jesus' message was viewed as radical in his day! His version of God's truths left his audience astonished. Surprisingly, however, it was simply a masterful retelling of God's Torah and the teachings of the prophets of old.

In SOCIAL JUSTICE JESUS Georgeson reveals how Jesus taught that the exercise of justice and mercy are the personal responsibility of each member of the kingdom of heaven. However, Jesus also reveals that the exercise of justice and mercy has a personal cost that can challenge one's security and faith-but faith is what is needed to be just and merciful. These truths are easily decoded once a reader has the keys of understanding that are found throughout the Old Testament. Jesus' harmony of old and new is quickly understood when his message is viewed within the historical context of his day. His epic sermon becomes a road map of how God would have us live our lives as we travel the path of his kingdom. What you will learn will have you astonished, just as it astonished the first listeners of this 2,000-year-old message.
