Caught between what’s seen and what’s hinted at, this descent into the off-kilter world of Twin Peaks tracks the signs, secrets, and wonderfully weird spaces that powered the show’s unforgettable spark.Filled with more than 300 images—stills, behind-the-scenes shots, character studies, objects, landscapes, and beautiful spreads—this image-drenched volume traces the elements that shaped Twin Peaks’ visual language. Red curtains, zigzag floors, flickering lamps, forest shadows, diner counters, owl eyes, Dictaphones, rings, and logs appear not as props but as clues, hinting at shifting layers of meaning.Motif-focused sections move through iconic interiors—the Black Lodge, the Great Northern, the Palmer house, the sheriff’s station, the Double R Diner—where reality thins and something stranger presses through.Characters emerge not through biography but gesture and atmosphere: Laura shimmering between innocence and doom, Cooper navigating intuition and ritual, Audrey on danger’s edge, and Leland slipping in and out of darkness. Brief reflections explore ideas central to the series: doubling, dream logic, time loops, hauntings, symbols that refuse to settle, and the uneasy border between the ordinary and the impossible.Rather than decode or explain, the authors follow the show’s own instincts—letting mood, pattern, and image reveal how the world of Twin Peaks holds together. This book invites devotees and newcomers inside a place where nothing is just what it seems, and every room, object, and glance hums with something just out of reach.

During their 40-year career, Bernd and Hilla Becher created their own architectural typology as they photographed buildings in a unique style. 'Basic Forms' represents the culmination of their career. Although the subject matter is unglamorous—mine shafts, blast furnaces, cooling towers, water towers, silos, and gas tanks—the Bechers’ passion for their work imbues these photographs with beauty and solemnity. The Bechers restricted the conditions of each photograph—taking them early in the morning, on overcast days, so as to eliminate shadow and distribute light evenly. Each image is centered and frontally framed, its parallel lines set on an even plane. There are no human figures, nor are there birds in the sky. The result is a treasury of precisely functional architectural forms, a sublime example of conceptual artistic practices, and a series of “perfect sculptures of a bygone industrial age.”

Her mostly female subjects exude quiet confidence and ease, their beauty revealed through gesture, shadow, and atmosphere. Berjaoui draws from the spirit of vintage beach culture while offering a perspective that feels instinctive and wholly her own — rooted in sensuality, nostalgia, and a reverence for the environment. These images will resonate with admirers of film-based imagery, retro travel style, and contemplative portraiture, as well as those drawn to themes of feminine presence and body positivity. Full-bleed compositions, sun-washed tones, and unhurried pacing give the book a dreamy, tactile presence—an object meant to be savored slowly and revisited often.

Andy Warhol's continuous pursuit of ideal beauty-visible in a body of his work that is brought here together for the first time.Andy Warhol is arguably one of the most widely known and discussed artists of the twentieth century. While his depictions of consumer products and celebrities led him to become household famous, there is a red thread throughout his career, starting even in the late forties until his untimely death in 1987. In the eighties Warhol was continuously searching to visualize an ideal of beauty, male beauty, finding form and creating lasting images of what he desired. He visualized and therefore eternalized this continuous pursuit of ideal beauty. From the early line and blotted line drawings to his screen tests and moving image experiments in the sixties, the torso paintings in the seventies through his collaborations with Jean-Michel Basquiat, there is a continuous search to express an ideal of male beauty. During his lifetime these works were either considered inappropriate, immoral, deviant or even pornographic and therefore illegal. Many of these works never received the public exposure and recognition that they deserve. Neue Nationalgalerie is for the first time putting together a large survey focusing on this thematic and central aspect throughout Warhol's different production phases and stages of career. This publication offers an insight into a Warhol, that during his lifetime never had a real "coming-out".Warhol died in 1987 at the age of only 58. He left behind an incredibly complex and influential body of work, which during his lifetime never experienced the open acceptance that we now have to look at these specific bodies of work.
