A Cage of Shadows was first published in 1973 to enthusiastic reviews and announced the arrival of a major new writer. Set in the Black Country during the 1930s, it tells of Hill's brutal upbringing. On leaving home, he encountered further degradation in prisons, mental hospitals and on skid row. But a chance meeting in the '50s changed his life: Hill became friends with Klaus 'Doc' Fuchs, who instilled in him a passion for literature and encouraged him to write. Libel action in 1975 meant copies of A Cage of Shadows were pulped. This new edition reinstates the original text.

Here is a delirious gathering of some of the writers, living and dead, who haunt Iain Sinclair and who inform his own London books. A party at the end of time where familiar ghosts line up to tell their overlapping stories. My Favourite London Devils is a fragmented autobiography laid out through a series of portraits as picaresque as John Aubrey's Brief Lives. Sinclair has assembled an accidental novel in the form of a dictionary of unreliable memories, passionate critiques and interviews with the London writers he has met or found secondhand in street markets and libraries.

Most famously depicted as the 300-pound, pill-popping Samoan attorney in Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Oscar 'Zeta' Acosta's wild, moving first book, originally published in 1972, reveals a man of astonishing variety. A converted Baptist missionary in Panama, bar hopper, psychiatric patient, struggling writer, heartbroken lover, great imposter, connoisseur of excess, Chicano activist, Brown Buffalo - Acosta did it all, then disappeared like a puff of smoke off the coast of Mazatlan, Mexico in the spring of 1974.

'When I met the Devil I was twelve years old. I'd just started holding hands with Holly from the top end of the village and, even though I thought she was only messing me around when she said that she'd be my girlfriend, I still went along with it. That's something else about this time of my life (the bit about Holly, I mean) but I'd say you probably want to hear about the Devil, don't you?' The Bygones is a glimpse into a specific part of the world, at a specific time, of what will soon be called history. These small stories range from the very real to the very bizarre, but even at their strangest point they speak an honesty that chimes with the magic that our gut tells us is still alive. You will encounter the devil, god, friends, misfits, relatives, spirits and soothsayers, in a village that doesn't exist, surrounded by towns that don't exist. Who knows who you're going to meet next.

November 10th, 1989: Claudia Bierschenk was thirteen years old when the Berlin Wall came down. In this intimate memoir, she reveals a world ruled by ideology, restrictions, half-truths, superstition, but also magic and humour. With a child's curiosity, she observes the grown-ups' strange behaviour as they cope with the day to day existence of living on 'the wrong side' of the Iron Curtain.

This selection of 'new poems' is partly sourced from an extensive archive found hidden in the poet's former abode. Within these pages: alcohol, melancholia, Get Carter, menstrual blood, loneliness, unsatisfying sexual encounters, fading personal relationships, passionate trysts, emotional breakdowns and so on. Perseverance by the reader will, however, be rewarded with glimpses of humour, goodwill and even compassion. But always with Mr Guffan's barely concealed complicity to be 'bent for the job'.

The novella began as a story treatment for a proposed film adaptation of Alan E. Nourse's novel The Bladerunner. A later edition published in the 1980s changed the formatting of the title to Blade Runner, a movie. Burroughs' treatment is set in the early 21st century and involves mutated viruses and 'a medical-care apocalypse'. The term 'blade runner' referred to a smuggler of medical supplies, e.g. scalpels.

In the midst of an apocalyptic event of unknown provenance - a mass of red spreading north from the southern counties - a young girl sets out on a journey. Along the way she encounters a series of eccentric characters, the few left behind in the wake of a widespread evacuation. Some of these individuals are ravaged and on the edge of death, while others are immersed in their own hermetic practices, be they solipsistic, nihilistic, or otherwise. None wish to engage for more than the brief time necessary to offer their meagre assistance. There is talk of 'anti-spores', pools of blood, and of a hum spreading through communication wires. The hum has altered the very appearance of written language, pushing words apart, leaving only single syllables behind. This constraint is present in the third-person narration we read but is removed during periods of dialogue. This results in a rhythmic, chantlike flow to the prose. As with the best of work that employs the tropes of apocalyptic fiction, Rebecca Gransden's unusual novella ends with many of its questions floating in the scarlet haze it generates, leaving them for the reader to ponder in the wake of what is surely a singular literary experience.

The Uncorrected Billy Childish was first published in 2009 as a 'Penguin Art Edition' by L-13 Light Industrial Workshop, in tandem with handbound, limited editions by the Tangerine Press. Penguin's lawyers intervened, insisting that all paper-backs be destroyed, resulting in an infamous book burning event in central London. A new edition was forthcoming in 2018 from the Tangerine Press, with edits and additions. This latest iteration is fully updated, expanded, and revised, with a new pre-title. Selections have been made from various volumes published during the 1980s right up to the present time. A significant change is the addition of two extra sections: Madrigals and Poeming & Paintry, a decision deemed necessary due to Mr Childish's vast and wide ranging poetic output. Each section begins with a woodcut illustration by Bill Hamper. Finally, it should be noted by the reader that Mr Childish is dyslexic and the poems appear as written by himself.

William Wantling (1933-74) was a veteran of the Korean War and a heroin addict who spent five years in San Quentin Prison, where he first taught himself to write. Despite being a convicted felon, he qualified for the G.I. Bill on his release in 1963 and went on to obtain a BA and MA in English from Illinois State University. He was a contemporary of Charles Bukowski with whom he had an unusual and ultimately destructive friendship. This selection brings together the best of Wantling's prolific output, including many poems dealing with Korea, heroin addiction and prison.

Brixton is one of the country's most notorious prisons. It is London's oldest and 2019 will mark its 200th anniversary. The House on the Hill tells the story of this remarkable institution, which popularised the dreaded treadmill, was the first women's prison, acted as London's remand jail for most of the last century and today is home to the Clink restaurant and National Prison Radio. But it also recalls the colourful lives of some of its residents - among them terrorists, mass murderers, spies, politicians and rock stars.
