The quirky poems in this book are easy to read and aim to cheer you up, so necessary in these days of doom and gloom. They even appeal to those who don’t usually like poetry (the author included)! They cover a wide range of topics such as corruption, depravity, plastic surgery, espionage, infertility etc.

Tears poured down my face as I quietly sat in the chair, surrounded by tissues, shaking. My heart was completely broken. It was all a bit surreal. I sobbed. I felt sick. My eldest daughter ran upstairs to her bedroom quickly. She sat on her window-sill waving. Tears rolled down her face. My two other children stood on the couch and waved furiously out of the window. They were waving at their Dad. He had spent the last few hours packing his belongings into his car. He opened the driver’s side door, got in his car and drove off down the street. He was their hero, until now. Hearts were broken, smashed to pieces, devastated beyond words. Abruptly, our lives had turned upside down. Everything that was familiar to us lay in ruins at our feet. Our family, destroyed in a heartbeat. This is my story of when I discovered that my husband was having an affair: the day he closed the front door; the devastation he left behind; and the agonising steps that followed. The journey has been so incredibly tough, harrowing and full of pain. As I summon the courage to bare my heart and soul to you, tears well in my eyes. Sadly, being deceived and discarded leaves its own trail of scars. My aim of writing this book is to reach out to those who are broken, hurting, rejected, abandoned and unloved; to say to all men and women who have been the ‘victim’ of a cruel act, such as adultery, that you are not on your own. I have had to fight for my integrity, self-respect and confidence on a daily basis. There have been days when I completely crumbled under the weight of the emotional torment and pain. But I never gave up trying. I live with my three beautiful children in Berkshire, in the United Kingdom. I am not a teacher, or a scholar, nor do I profess to be. I hold no qualifications. I am just me. I am a Christian and a church leader in my local church. Throughout this book I want to share how God has helped me on my journey. I have used references from the Bible and explained how these have helped me. My prayer is that this book will be a blessing to you in some small way. Much love, Toni x

Walking in love and forgiveness is not an easy task, especially towards those who have hurt us, but it is possible and there are numerous rewards. When my husband walked out of our front door, our family, and our marriage – in pursuit of another woman, it left me feeling abandoned, rejected and alone. Despite the many months of harrowing turmoil and pain, God showed me step by step, day by day, how to love the unlovable and how to forgive the unforgiveable. This is a ten-session workbook offering you key elements from my book Crumble or Stand: The Power of Forgiveness, with the aim to give you ideas of how you can try to put some of its principles into practice on your own, with a small group, or with someone you trust. I hope that you will discover a new you! There may be a crumble moment along the way, but ultimately you will realise that you can walk in love – you can forgive those who have hurt you – and you can be victorious!

Charles Fletcher had exceptional influence on healthcare and health education in Britain. He wrote the original report of the Royal College of Physicians on smoking and health, the first report by any national body in the world. As the nation''s popular first TV doctor he led the medical enlightenment of millions. Early in his career he took on the challenge of developing research into pneumoconiosis, the dust disease disabling tens of thousands of British coal miners. From this came major advances in its prevention. Later his research attention turned to chronic bronchitis, a disease then afflicting hundreds of thousands in Britain and accounting for 30,000 of their deaths annually. Major prevention guidelines resulted. In addition to anti-smoking campaigning, the later years of his career were distinguished by initiatives that improved the care and welfare of asthma and diabetes patients, and ensured that doctors were trained to communicate better. Pioneering Physician is the complete story of a remarkable contributor to a nation''s health and his international influence.

This book is about Africa south of the Sahara. It is this region of the continent – ‘black Africa’ – that people associate with failure. Several reasons have been advanced over the years. The first is that its indigenous inhabitants are somehow intellectually less able than those from North Africa or elsewhere. The purported evidence for this is flawed in all respects. The second is that the climate of tropical Africa has held the region back. This is undoubtedly true, especially in regard to agriculture and the health of the people. Nevertheless five hundred years ago kingdoms south of the Sahara were the match of some in the northern hemisphere. Only since then have they failed so conspicuously in comparison. The slave trade and ensuing colonization have obviously been critical, though I consider their significance to be less than often thought. Failure continued to beset sub-Saharan Africa: independence did not bring prosperity. Indeed there are those who consider continued failure to be the hall mark of the region. I do not agree and will show that at least some of the nations have begun to turn failure into success, as suggested in the second part of the title. This book, then, is a reality check on some widely-held beliefs.

There’s a real sense of posterity and pride in A Week in August. Author David Hawker reflects on an institution established in 1951, in which he played an active role for decades and revisits later in life. The comparison between generations is a strong platform from which Hawker comments on changing times and attitudes. This perspective makes his ideas, and by association the goals of the camp itself, even more meaningful and vital - particularly in an age of spiritual ennui. By remembering this valuable fellowship in print, the camp enters the realms of posterity with a bright hope for the future. Remembered with fondness and the ever-present notion in that everything we experience can teach us something, this is a valuable work for future and past generations both.

Following the progression of his career as a pilot, from the initial training through to flying multi-engined aircrafts to jets, author Mike Bennison brings wit, charm and a small measure of rebelliousness to this entertaining account of life in the air. Full of anecdotes and stories, Mike recounts the lows and highs of his career, whilst always keeping an eye on three topics: aviation disasters (and how they happened), the growth and development of the aviation world, and the amusing (and sometimes frightening) events that happened to him or those around him.

The secrets of endless life have been jealously guarded to keep a people safe. Now, as evidence grows of failure, one man embarks on a quest to find life that is eternal, not endless, little realising an evil seed is emerging close by that will bring desolation to his world. When he is joined by survivors of brutal land clearances, an unlikely alliance forms to pursue life, as dark forces seek to prevent their quest. As chaos engulfs the world, demonic forces behind the Final Solution are unmasked during a deadly race to save humanity from the rise of the Nephilim.

Many Monks across the Sea is a solid resource for scholars and practitioners on monastic praxis. It is about an embodied theology of mission that highlights an early case of monks having roles in their own wider society but also beyond it, ‘across the sea’. This is part of a growing body of works that dispels the erroneous notion that monks like mystics were called principally for prayer and meditation in insulated communes. Monasteries were sites of serious scholarship and training but also of broader missional contacts and encounters.

Our belief is that people’s lives are made of stories - some forced on them, some chosen, some ever-present for them, some half-forgotten, some bringing life and some closing people down and boxing them in. Stories define. Stories confine. Stories affirm. Stories constrain. Narratives and the connections they make, and the conversations they engender are the basis of all relationships, all groups, all tribes, all organisations. The health of the groups we belong to, and are part of is critically dependent on the quality of the conversations between people. The Story so Far is a guide for executive coaches about the function of narrative in their client’s lives. Everyone constructs their identity through the stories they tell. This book is about Transformational Narrative Coaching, a process that supports and challenges clients as they re-story their lives and shape different, more generative futures. This is the resource you will need as an experienced executive coach to add a narrative dimension to your repertoire of coaching approaches. The book lays the foundations for narrative coaching and outlines the practicalities of becoming a Transformational Narrative Coaching Practitioner. The book is the distilled wisdom of two highly experienced executive coaches - Nick Isbister and Jude Elliman. Each of them have thirty years of working with a diverse range of clients from a variety of sectors, using their stories and a narrative methodology. The draws coaches into the world of narrative identity and of how to work with it. Businesses are dependent on engaging their constituencies in better conversations and this approach equips you to work with these narratives too. Insightful, relevant, practical The Story so Far is a must for any experienced executive coach, or L&OD practitioners who want to work more effectively with the complexity and power of narrative expression.

Imagine going upstairs to bed, only to wake up in hospital several weeks later not knowing your partner of 20 years, your three children, your mother… or even the reflection of your own face in the mirror. This is exactly what happened to Stephanie Woods, who had contracted Porphyria, The Mad King George Disease. This book follows Stephanie’s early vibrant and varied life until the time when Porphyria struck. Her courage in rebuilding her life shows remarkable fortitude during the many setbacks, laughter often being the only antidote to tears of frustration. Insightful, educational and entertaining, this is a remarkable book by a remarkable lady. For anyone who feels like giving up in desperation, the clear message from this book is "DON''T!"

In the spring of 1973, aged 19, Mark Goodwin volunteered to teach English and Maths at a school in South Sudan. Upon arrival in Khartoum, he was informed that ‘some troubles had begun’ and he was not allowed to travel south. With time on his hands, how hard could it be to go west from the Nile to Nigeria and then cross the Sahara before returning to England? In a time before credit cards and mobile phones, he set off with just £50 of travellers’ cheques in his pocket, armed with the innocence and fearlessness of youth. Seemingly daunting obstacles and imposed detours doubled the journey to over 10,000 km. A highlight was crossing the west of Darfur with camels; a low point was being convinced he was about to be shot. Illness, hunger and extreme exhaustion are interspersed with sights and hospitality that only Africa can provide. And woven throughout is Mark’s infectious wide-eyed love and respect for the people he encounters. Mark kept a log of his travels, which he shares here for the first time.

A true love story that defied convention and class. At the height of the Victorian era, John Patricius (Patrick) Chaworth-Musters is born, heir to a wealthy landowning and mining dynasty. Worlds away, Mary Anne Sharpe is born into a family of Bedfordshire straw plaiters. Mary Anne joins the Chaworth-Musters as a junior maid in 1881. Less than two years later, Patrick (aged 23), gets 20-year-old Mary Anne pregnant. His parents fail to part them but send them to live in Norway, unwed, but away from ‘polite society’. Four years and four children later, Patrick unexpectedly inherits the family’s estate and returns to England. Contrary to convention, he marries Mary Anne, legitimising their children. She reluctantly takes on the daunting role as ‘lady of the manor’, having to manage the servants she had so recently reported to. This is a Victorian story of love, duty, and sacrifice, which within 100 years, leaves the dynasty shattered and the family’s wealth drained.

30 short stories from 50 years off the beaten track, illustrated by many photographs.

Eva was part of the enforced migration of German Jews caused by the coming to power of the Nazi regime. Her background was not untypical of that exodus. Her father was a distinguished professional and their Jewishness was understated though never denied. Eva was wholly distinctive in two ways, her resilience and her intelligence.

This book is a companion with Mannership which sought to explore how an individual mind becomes ‘poisoned’ by a self-destructive tendency. Mannership III looks at the question of how our cultural environment developed in such a way that this ‘poison’ became thrust so deep within our children’s minds. At the age of just 15 months, Mark Goodwin lost his hearing. For the next seven years he communicated through the other senses and their universal language. His way of looking opens our eyes to experiences which our culture misses. Extensive travels in Africa and Asia in his teenage years, followed by a government appointment to the Gilbert and Ellice Islands after he graduated from Oxford, allowed Mark to hone these skills. Mark’s global career spanned the diplomatic service, management consultancy, tropical farming, manufacturing, leadership coaching, as well as experience as a group psychoanalyst. Open your mind, relax and be prepared to be entertained, educated and challenged as you travel round the world with a guide uniquely qualified to provide insights rarely encountered.
