Tales of Passed Times'' is a collection of Charles Perrault''s fairy tales, accompanied by the beautiful illustrations of Charles Robinson. A French nobleman and writer, Perrault (1628-1703) was among the first authors to bring magical children''s stories into the literary mainstream, proving to their original seventeenth century readers that such works were important, enjoyable, as well as thought-provoking. The stories in this particular text include such favorites as ''Blue Beard'', ''Little Red Riding-Hood'', ''Sleeping Beauty'', ''Puss in Boots'' and ''Cinderella'' as well as other, less well known tales such as ''Riquet of the Tuft'', ''Little Thumbling'' and ''Princess Rosette.'' These stories are accompanied by a set of dazzling colored illustrations from a true master of the ''Golden Age of Illustration'' - Charles Robinson (1870-1937). An active painter in his own right, and brother of the famous Thomas and William Heath Robinson, his illustrations still delight both young and old over a century later. Robinson started his illustrative career with 100 pen and ink drawings for A Child’s Garden of Verses (1895). The book was an instant hit, and from that point onwards, Robinson continued to illustrate fairy tales and children’s books – with his characteristic style of subtle line, combined with delicate watercolours. The fairy tales in their original translations are presented here, alongside Robinson''s beautiful images.Pook Press celebrates the great ‘Golden Age of Illustration‘ in children’s literature – a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration from the 1880s to the 1930s. Our collection showcases classic fairy tales, children’s stories, and the work of some of the most celebrated artists, illustrators and authors. - E-bokEngelska, 2013

Oscar Wilde’s children’s stories explore timeless themes of good and evil, freedom and responsibility, love and death, beauty and self-sacrifice. Featuring princesses, ogres and talking animals, the questions they pose are as pertinent now as they were at the turn of the century. What is love? asks ‘The Happy Prince’. How do you get what you need? asks ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’. How do you win friends (and avoid alienating people)? asks ‘The Selfish Giant’. Can you have too much compassion? asks ‘The Devoted Friend’. How can you set the world on fire? asks ‘The Remarkable Rocket’. Wilde’s stories have given pleasure to generations of readers. By turns moving and funny, they gently teach free thinking rather than giving prescriptive lessons. This beautiful collectors’ edition with original watercolour illustrations and decorative motifs from the 1913 edition by Charles Robinson and an introduction by Wilde expert Michèle Mendelssohn is certain to surprise and delight adults and children alike. - Häftad, Engelska, 1993

Well-suited for young readers who hover between beginning and intermediate books, this chapter book is about Floramel, a very lonely and bored cow. Rafie, the boy who milks her once a day, is her only company. He sings her calypso songs and talks to her in the morning before he goes off to work in the fish market. While Rafie is away, Floramel tries to sing the calypso songs, but she can't make the same sounds. But excitement comes when a flock of cattle egrets arrives. The egrets leave Lazy Esteban behind to keep Floramel company and relieve her of the horrid insects on her body. With the help of Esteban and a handful of conch shells, Floramel learns how to make her own calypso music and how she might surprise Rafie with it. This story, along with Charles Robinson's charming illustrations, is an excellent way to show the symbiotic relationships between animals. As an added bonus, Floramel and Esteban comes with its own version of the song "Calypso Cow," with which children can play and sing along.
