A gentle tale about a little monk discovering silence, prayer, and the spiritual wisdom found in quiet. In this delightful book that's part of a series, the personal experiences of a Benedictine monk are blended with a story of a little monk and his introduction to the monastic tradition.“’What do you know about silence?’ the abbot asked. ‘Well . . . that it’s silent,’ replied the little monk, although he really would have preferred to say ‘sad’ or ‘boring.’ The little monk went back to the kitchen, sat down at the table, and began to think. The abbot had said that silence was precious. ‘But how can something be precious that only consists of the absence of other things?’ he wondered.”Through inquiry and contemplation, the little monk learns that silence has much to offer, including freedom, strength of character, and self-knowledge. As you follow the little monk’s journey, you’ll explore the invitation to welcome the peace of silence into your own spiritual practice. You’ll encounter quotes from the Rule of St. Benedict along with sets of thoughtful questions and exercises that encourage you to slow down, listen deeply, and discover the value of the stillness within.
