“Freshest page-turner this year”
A week in Cannes can be murder: Andy Carrick – an ex soldier still doing battle with himself – hunts for the cut-throat razor killer of a decadent advertising guru murdered during a long lunch.
At first the murder seems a real life-saver; Carrick aches to get back to the centre of things.
But suddenly he's not so sure. The investigation is leading him straight back to his own messy past, a dark and lonely place he’s in no hurry to revisit.
The action plunges through the famous hotels and bars of the French Riviera during festival season as Carrick begins to wonder if it’s really the crime of passion it’s been made to look?
Is it actually big business related?
Or maybe, just maybe, a brazen international modern art forgery scam?
When Carrick’s own alibi crumbles he starts wondering one more thing: can he survive seven days and nights in a town full of liars for hire?
Want vivid characters and tight plotting shot through with dry wit?
Strap yourself in.
Acclaimed internationally:
“I loved it. Witty and gritty.” - Morris & Partners
“Andy is a soldier, not a detective … Here’s hoping the author has more adventures planned for his appealing hero. A winning new detective who overcomes his demons.” - Kirkus Reviews
“A deeply layered tale ... There is humanity, flaws and perfection, moral decisions to be made, and more … Michael Newman has a way with language … His story is original, and his prose is twice that.” - (Five Stars) USA Book Reviews
“With the tension growing tighter with each page, and the questions piling up, this book hooks the reader right away and does not let go until the end. Highly recommend for anyone who loves for their mysteries to be thrilling, their characters to be flawed and compelling, and their settings to be dazzling. You will not be disappointed.” - (Five Stars) Goodreads
“Engaging, beautifully written and totally believable. I was completely compelled … What a unique book … With its themes of Fakery and Betrayal it’s really topical … Definitely recommend.” - Amazon Australia
“Will have you hooked the instant you turn the first page … electrifying story of thrill and suspense …. Michael Newman constructs this story line beautifully, with complex character development … and just the right amount of suspense at every turn … Once you start this book, you won’t be able to put it down. Highly recommended!” - (Five Stars) Amazon
