Join Big Wolf and Little Wolf as they move through the seasons and share an adventure.

The book's protagonist is Michel, an eight-year-old Parisian boy. His brother Martin, who's twelve, detests him, and he detests Martin right back. This summer, Michel will go away alone, which really means without his mom, to stay with his grandparents while his parents move apartments. To add to the horror, Michel's older boy cousins will be going, too. As Michel says, "To put it simply, they are big, strong, and pals with Martin. I am their scapegoat." Recounted by Michel himself, his vacation doesn't turn out to be such a complete zero after all. Between a competition to see who can shower the least, wild bike rides without gear, and a tooth that finally falls out, Michel discovers both independence and real moments of happiness. The text is both very funny and moving, with good reason, for we see an eight-year-old's vacation with his grandparents and older cousins through his own eyes, with all of the little things that are important to a boy of eight: the dumb things that he'll never tell his mom; the small triumphs; the disregard and mocking of the older cousins; the shame of having a bathing suit that slips off in the pool; the freedom of being away from home; and the satisfaction of overcoming fears. As always, Olivier Tallec's illustrations render all the emotions of our little hero with an enormous amount of expressiveness, talent, and sheer gorgeousness.

A humorous chapter book series with an appealing heroine.

Dagfrid's brother, Odalrik, has turned sixteen years old. For his birthday, he gets a sword and should be in training to be a great warrior, but all Dagfrid sees him doing is laying around. All the while, she not only has to do the cleaning and sewing, but has been given the 'honour' of preparing the meal for the chief's banquet. Come to find out, Odalrik is bored and would love to learn how to cook and sew so he's not so bored all the time, but his lot in life as a male is to be a leader. Together, they decide it's all nonsense, so, hiding behind their house, Odalrik helps Dagfrid with the banquet and not only feels useful, but is quite good at cooking.

Red Snake and Blue Snake have been friends since they were small, but that doesn't mean they see things the same way. When Red Snake says the sky is grey, Blue Snake insists it's blue. The cactus looks just like a ghost—or a mitten. With so much to debate, can the snakes stay friends? The two stubborn reptiles start their morning with a little yoga, watch the clouds, bicker about this and that, narrowly escape being captured by a snake charmer, and end the day very nearly agreeing on something. Tallec's knack for high comedy is a highlight of this bright story that reminds us how opposite points of view can be equally true.

Squirrel and his best friend, Pock the mushroom, sit on the old stump, watching birds fly by. When they’re tired of this, they take the path to the yellow meadow to listen to the blackbird sing. But today, the bird’s not there. The friends look everywhere. Finally they find it on the path, all stretched out and quite still. It must be sleeping. They sit down quietly and wait for the bird to wake. This true-to-child story of a natural encounter with an animal that has died is both dryly humorous and a profound example of how to manage the comings and goings of life.
