"Pausing to thank Michele for a career of service, yielding improvements in many parts of the world, seems eminently worthwhile. We encourage all mental health services researchers to read this book (Fig. 1." (Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 24 March 2014) Nevertheless many of the contributors show a strong understanding of the impact of mental ill-health on people s lives, a wish to reduce that impact, and awareness of and respect for people s rights (even though legal aspects are not discussed, as I describe above). In other words, though you may agree or not with some of the contributors, their humanity shines through, and as such the book is a wonderful and fitting tribute to the pioneer of mental health community care, Michele Tansella.
