The 2015 Paris Accord stated the aim to limit the increase in global mean temperatures to 2ºC compared to pre-industrial levels and if possible, keep it down to 1.5ºC. Achieving this is possible, but the costs incurred are uncertain and the distribution of costs among nations is indistinct. Furthermore, even if the goal is realised, significant impacts from climate change can be expected. Evidence indicates that these will be felt most severely in countries that are relatively poor. These effects of climate change will be added to by the measures taken to reduce GHGs. Together, they will determine how climate change affects the prospects for development across the globe. The analysis of the interplay between climate change and policies to combat it on the one hand and development on the other are the focus of this book.

Professor William Nordhaus was honored with a Nobel Prize in Economics for his lifetime contributions to research and policy on climate change and macroeconomics. This book contains a collection of essays written by eleven leading climate change economists describing precisely how Professor Nordhaus changed climate change economics. The essays highlight the major contributions that Professor Nordhaus has made to understanding climate change. The book also discusses the important contributions Professor Nordhaus has made to develop effective policies to manage greenhouse gases both now and far into the future. Several authors also thank Professor Nordhaus for the influence he has had on the trajectory of their own careers. Finally, the essays press forward and discuss how the entire field continues to work on perfecting both climate change economics and policy.

Asian countries play a significant role in emission mitigation, which is one of the central pillars of the global effort to meet the 1.5°C and 2°C climate goals pledged in the Paris Agreement. This book contains a series of essays that explore how Asian territories are contributing to substantial emission reductions by presenting in-depth insights and fresh perspectives on optimal mitigation actions, strategies, and policies in Asian economies.
