Wittgenstein's religious thought is not well understood. And Wittgensteinian philosophy of religion is charged with fideism, religious non-realism, and even crypto-atheism. These charges, however, are borne of misunderstandings that are a result of the critics' being oblivious of apophatic theology. This book is intended to help clear some of those misunderstandings and neutralize the above-mentioned charges. It argues that Wittgenstein's religious thought shares kinship with the thought of apophaticists in Christendom such as the Pseudo-Dionysius and St. Thomas Aquinas. What appear to be fideism, non-realism, or crypto-atheism to the critics appear differently to those who see Wittgensteinian philosophy of religion from the apophaticists' point of view--Wittgenstein's religious point of view.

In The Praised and the Virgin, Rusmir Mahmutćehajić provides an extended theologically and philosophically informed meditation on relations between the Muslim and Christian traditions, through the persons of Muhammad (the Praised) and Mary (the Virgin), as complementary bearers of God’s Word. He traces their presence in the extended encounter of the Abrahamic traditions that is Bosnia’s past and present, demonstrating how these traditions inform each other, while simultaneously preserving their difference and uniqueness. He lays fundamental groundwork for a more authentic dialogue, based on identity and difference in history under God, that is also a critique of inhumane ideologies and a modernity that has forsaken God and Man, again as reflected in the historical experiences of the Bosnian people.

Deus ex Metaphora: Gods of the Philosophers and Their Functions

“Would you trust God if he was undefined?” asked Elias Canetti. The work Deus ex Metaphora ponders why philosophers have created new and undefined concepts of divinity alongside the religious ones, and why they became hard to reconcile with religious traditions.Nameless formulas created a new story of the divine. Despite the family resemblances, they have created a separate branch of images of divinity, in line with philosophy’s claims to universal, independent explanations. In this analysis of metaphors of the divine, referring to the metaphorology of Hans Blumenberg and historical semantics, the concept of the God of the philosophers becomes clear and distinct.
