Prospects of Hydrogen-fueled Power Generation brings together experts to explore the various challenges and opportunities of hydrogen as a fuel in power generation, transportation, storage, and safety. Special interest is given to proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) fuel cells, hydrogen energy, and the conversion methods. The usage of clean fuel in road transportation, marine transportation, and the power generation sector are also discussed in detail. Additionally, performance investigations reveal information about the system's energy and exergy analysis.Hydrogen-fueled power generation is the process of generating electricity using hydrogen as the primary fuel source. This process typically involves the conversion of hydrogen into electricity using fuel cells or combustion engines. Fuel cells are electrochemical devices that convert hydrogen into electricity and water with no emissions other than water vapor. Combustion engines, on the other hand, burn hydrogen to produce heat, which is used to generate electricity through a turbine. The byproducts of hydrogen combustion are water and heat, with no harmful emissions. One advantage of hydrogen-fueled power generation is that it produces no harmful emissions, making it a clean and sustainable source of energy. Additionally, hydrogen is a highly abundant element that can be produced from a variety of sources, including natural gas, biomass, and renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.

This book outlines the global opportunity to increase solar photovoltaic (PV) plant energy yields through modelling and analysis. Because it is endlessly available in Earth’s atmosphere, solar PV energy extraction is rising faster than all other renewable energy sources worldwide. Thus, technological improvements are needed to lower the cost of solar PV per watt every year. Since solar PV efficiency is low, modelling and analysis of boost converters, maximum power point tracing, solar PV cleaners, irradiation tracing systems, and panel tilt adjustments all help increase solar PV plant energy yield.Solar Photovoltaic System Modelling and Analysis covers topics such as:Relevance, types, and growth rate of renewable resourcesHow solar PV systems generate electricityPanel varieties and their importanceSolar PV designs and architecturesCharge controllers, including the latest technologiesBoost converter modelling and analysis in MATLABThe necessity of hybrid power plants (modelling and analysis)Designing a solar PV system including panel selection for a specific application, as well as converter and inverter estimation

This book discusses real applications of soft computing (SC) in power systems. These SC techniques, inspired by the human mind and biological behavior, have proven to be excellent tools to overcome the challenges faced in power systems and related areas. The techniques are robust and provide low-cost solutions while also offering an effective solution for studying and modeling the behavior of renewable energy generation, operation of grid-connected renewable energy systems, and sustainable decision-making among alternatives. The tolerance of SC techniques to imprecision, uncertainty, partial truth, and approximation makes them highly useful alternatives to conventional techniques. The rapid growth in SC techniques plays an important role in powerful representation, modeling paradigms and optimization mechanisms for solving power system issues such as power quality, reactive power control, oscillation and stability problems, renewable energy resource eval-uation, design of energy efficiency systems, economic load dispatch problems or very different energy system applications in smart grids.

This book introduces Power Electronics by emphasizing computer simulation using the Python programming language. It is primarily a senior undergraduate text but can also be used for a post-graduate course on DC-DC switch power mode converters. It is also a reference for practicing engineers.Theoretical analysis of the circuits and approximate calculations precede the simulations, and the reader is taken by hand through the numerical analysis. Finally, when the programs are presented, they are simple and easy to understand. Python is a computational language that is easy to learn and has the libraries necessary for simulations. The author has observed that students’ interest in Power Electronics is enhanced when they learn to simulate the circuits without depending on a general-purpose program. This book encourages the reader to run the programs and perform numerical experiments. Quite a few simulations in the later chapters have been left as exercises for the reader. Many feedback control issues have been extensively discussed in the chapter on non-isolated DC-DC converters.

The Smart Grid represents an unprecedented opportunity to move the energy industry into a new era of reliability, availability, and efficiency that will contribute to our economic and environmental health. During the transition period, it will be critical to carry out testing, technology improvements, consumer education, development of standards and regulations, and information sharing between projects to ensure that the benefits we envision from the Smart Grid become a reality.Today, an electricity disruption such as a blackout can have a domino effect—a series of failures that can affect banking, communications, traffic, and security. This is a particular threat in the winter, when homeowners can be left without heat. A smarter grid will add resiliency to our electric power system and make it better prepared to address emergencies such as severe storms, earthquakes, large solar flares, and terrorist attacks. Because of its two-way interactive capacity, the Smart Grid will allow for automatic rerouting when equipment fails or outages occur. This will minimize outages and minimize the effects when they do happen. When a power outage occurs, Smart Grid technologies will detect and isolate the outages, containing them before they become large-scale blackouts. These new technologies will also help ensure that electricity recovery resumes quickly and strategically after an emergency—routing electricity to emergency services first, for example. In addition, the Smart Grid will take greater advantage of customer-owned power generators to produce power when it is not available from utilities. By combining these "distributed generation" resources, a community could keep its health center, police department, traffic lights, phone system, and grocery stores operating during emergencies. In addition, the Smart Grid is a way to address an aging energy infrastructure that needs to be upgraded or replaced. This book shows that Smart Grids can address energy efficiency, bring increased awareness to consumers about the connection between electricity use and the environment, and bring increased national security to our energy system—drawing on greater amounts of home-grown electricity that is more resistant to natural disasters and attack.
