Isaac Asimov was born in 1920 in Russia and was brought to the USA by his parents three years later. He grew up in Brooklyn and attended Columbia University. After a short spell in the army, he gained a doctorate and worked in academia and chemical research.Asimov’s career as a science fiction writer began in 1939 with the short story ‘Marooned Off Vesta’. Thereafter he became a regular contributor to the leading SF magazines of the day. Asimov wrote hundreds of short stories and novels, including the iconic I, Robot and Foundation. He won the Hugo Award four times and the Nebula Award once.Apart from his world-famous science fiction, Asimov also wrote highly successful detective mystery stories, a four-volume History of North America, a two-volume Guide to the Bible, a biographical dictionary, encyclopaedias, and textbooks, as well as two volumes of autobiography.Asimov died in 1992 at the age of 72.

   Jag älskar böcker som kan hålla mig på halster och få mig att tro, hela vägen till slutknorren, att jag har koll och sedan visa mig hur fel jag har. Det är omöjligt att detaljerat berätta vad jag tycker om utan att förstöra överraskningar för de som inte läst boken ännu så jag avstår från det. Efter att ha läst noveller av författaren visste jag att jag tycker om hans direkta och rättframma stil. Är det med i boken betyder det något. Han är inte mycket för krusiduller och snömos. Ibland är jag för trög för att förstå varför något nämns, men det är okej. Han förklarar så småningom, om man inte hängt med, och då kan man få ett "Aha-moment" istället. Bästa citatet i hela boken är: "You'll have such proof as exists. You are the only one responsible for your own wants." Eftersom jag inte minns att jag sett filmen, även om min omgivning påstår att jag sett den, så kan jag inte säga om jag tycker de har med varandra att göra. Filmen kanske var så intetsägande helt enkelt? Men ett vet jag: boken är lysande.
