Teaching the Postsecondary Music Student with Disabilities

Kimberly McCord is Professor of Music Education at Illinois State University and the founder and past chair of the National Association for Music Education Special Research Interest Group on Children with Exceptionalities. She is also on the Board of the International Society for Music Education. McCord was part of a team from Illinois State University to receive a contract from VSA/Kennedy Center for the Arts to develop assessments in the arts for children with disabilities.

In addition to providing rich information about a wide variety of discrete disabilities, McCord also highlights discipline-specific challenges, considerations, and accommodations for post-secondary musicians with disabilities. This is an excellent, practical resource for today's music faculty who will inevitably work with musicians with disabilities in the classroom and in the studio.
