Beskrivning
Charles Darwin's Geological diary is a crucial document for studying his intellectual development during the voyage of the 'Beagle' - a voyage that so famously changed our understanding of the world forever. It is by far Darwin's longest manuscript and records his geological work (and more) throughout the voyage. This is the last complete account of the voyage of the 'Beagle' by Darwin himself to be published. It contains a wealth of previously unpublished material revealing, for example, islands Darwin visited, mountains he climbed, people he met, and books he read. It contains fascinating clues on his changing views of the history of life, the Earth, and the movements of living things across the globe, ideas that formed the foundation of Darwin's theory of evolution.Accompanied by full editorial apparatus and explanatory introductions, this volume contains hundreds of individual handwritten documents, which have been deciphered, ordered, and meticulously edited to make them accessible and illuminate this pivotal chapter in Darwin's life.
