David Carroll is Emeritus Professor of English Literature at the University of Lancaster, edited the Clarendon edition of Middlemarch (1986). As well as publishing many articles on George Eliot's fiction, he has written Chinua Achebe (1980) and other essays on African literature. He is joint General Editor of the Longman Literature in English Series.David Russell is Associate Professor of English and Tutorial Fellow at the University of Oxford. He is the author of Tact: Aesthetic Liberalism and the Essay Form in Nineteenth-Century Britain (2017).

    Relationer är lika komplicerad då som nu. Boken är en nyttig övning i engelska språket, även om det är mitt modersmål, och en blick i en annan värld. En givande bok på flera nivåer.

    Trodde den var skriven på engelska ej i översättning lite besviken av de för egen del. Berättelsen speglar den tiden i England; en fin klassiker. Gav bort.

    Describes by Virginia Woolf as "one of the few English novels written for grown-up people", this is a marvellous, moving, funny, huge novel. Hugely enjoyable

    Fantastiska personteckningar och miljöer i denna fängslande klassiker. Rätt komplicerad engelska dock. Borde verkligen komma ut på svenska igen, så att fler kan läsa den!
