History of Anglo-Japanese Relations, 1600-2000

IAN NISH is Professor Emeritus of International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London. His research has concentrated on the field of Japanese foreign policy, especially in the period of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance (1902-23) and the twentieth century generally. He has served as President of the British Association for Japanese Studies and from 1985-1988 as President of the European Association for Japanese Studies. He is the author of several books including The Anglo-Japanese Alliance, 1895-97, The Story of Japan , and Japan's Struggle with Internationalism, 1931-3. YOICHI KIBATA is Professor at the University of Tokyo. He is the author of The Price of Imperial Rule and The Twilight of the Empire: British Policy Towards Japan and Malaya, 1947-1955.
