MICHAEL BUTLER is Professor of Modern German Literature and Head of the Department of German Studies, University of Birmingham. He is author of The Novels of Max Frisch (1976), The Plays of Max Frisch (1985) Max Frisch: 'Andorra' (1994) The Narrative Fiction of Heinrich B?ll (1994), and numerous articles in the field of modern German literature. - ROBERT EVANS is Lecturer in German, Department of German Studies at the University of Birmingham. His research interests are Old High German and comparative Germanic philology.
