"The second edition of this incredible commentary has new voices which add even wider perspectives to a work which originally broke many conventions in its first incarnation. The first edition was published in 2006 and laid the foundations for an explosion of queer hermeneutical works by showing queer folk that they too could comment on biblical texts and that their queer eyes would open the texts to greater understanding and a wider readership, queer and straight. The Bible was no longer seen as a set of texts that were simply condemnatory but rather there was a way to read from experience which brought the texts alive to a diverse range of people. This second edition continues to generate questions about the stability of gender and the correct form of sexuality while it also brings into focus the colonial past of biblical interpretation and moves towards decolonial readings. Each author is placing before us justice seeking and inclusive ways to read the texts and the work is reaching out to global communities in the hope of empowering them to queer texts in their own way.
