Doughboy War

After the United States entered World War I in April 1917, more than two million American troops journeyed “over there”--to Europe, where the Germans, French, and British had been slugging it out on the Western Front since 1914. In this vivid account of the American fighting man in the Great War, James Hallas lets the doughboys speak for themselves as they describe their first days in the muddy trenches, the bloody battles for Belleau Wood, the violent clash on the Marne, and the seemingly unending morass of the Argonne.
