Beskrivning
One of the few works which documents the institutional relationship between the Jewish communities of Israel and the U.S. The United Israel Appeal, one of the groups involved in the State's development, serves well as a mirror with which to reflect some of the more salient aspects of American Jewry's material contributions to the rise of the modern Jewish State.

...provides a clear and documented history of American Jewish efforts to aid refugees and assist in the upbuilding of the Jewish homeland...Anyone who knows Ernest Stock will not be surprised by the meticulous approach to detail and development of this historical perspective...will undoubtedly help us better understand the responsibilities of each generation of Jewish leadership in the United States. Journal Of Jewish Communal Service ...a useful and fairminded study...an important addition to the literature on American Jewish philanthropy and deserves a place in specialized collections. Religious Studies Review ...a valuable book because, as stated in the Preface, there are few publications which delineate the criss-crossing network of organizations that link the Jewish communities of Israel and America. Jewish Journal of Sociology ...a must for anyone wishing to understand more about Israel's relations with American Jewry. Maariv ...provides a readable, reliable account...Partners and Pursestrings is eminently worth reading. Stock knows the subject in all of its delicate nuances and is remarkably effective in conveying these to the reader.
