This book addresses the contemporary ideological conflict among professionals, both academics and practitioners, as to the appropriate response toward criminal and juvenile justice offender populations. Since the mid-seventies there has been a philosophical debate among the 'hard-liners' and the 'born again' liberals over delivery of a 'just desserts' model for the deviant within our population. Still others cling to the correctional practice history of humane intervention.
