The first translation into English of Life of the Fathers, a collection of twenty lives of saints which lives present a cross-section of the Gallic Church and are a counterpart to the secular society described in Gregory’s History of the Franks.
Edward James read history at Oxford, and then did research on the archaeology of south-west Gaul in the early Middle Ages. He taught at University College Dublin between 1970 and 1978, and is currently Senior Lecturer in the Department of History, and Co-Director of the Centre for Medieval Studies, at the University of York.
