Jenny Ziviani is Associate Professor in Occupational Therapy in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Queensland, Australia. She has research and teaching interests in the role of handwriting in emergent literacy for school-aged children, time use in children and the impact this has on health and wellbeing, particularly for children with developmental disabilities, and rehabilitation outcomes for children with acquired injuries. Anne Poulsen is an Occupational Therapist and Research Officer within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Queensland, Australia. She has specific expertise in child health and behaviour problems, and a focus of her work has been children's participation in physical activity. Motivation in children has also been of interest to Anne and she has developed models to explain motivational processes for children, which are increasingly being utilised by Occupational Therapists working in paediatrics. Monica Cuskelly is Associate Professor within the School of Education, University of Queensland, Australia.
The key theory and model that underpin the entire book are: Self Determination Theory (SDT) and The Synthesis of Child Occupational Performance and Environment-In Time (SCOPE-IT)... Many practitioners may have used principles of the SDT and SCOPE-IT without knowing it. Both the theory and model are explained in great detail with clear references to research and best practice. The book will help practitioners look afresh at key factors in creating and working in a therapeutic relationship.
