Karl König (1902-1966) was born into a Jewish family and grew up in Vienna in the last years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. While studying medicine he came across the work of Rudolf Steiner and after graduating he worked with Ita Wegman.König founded a home for children with special needs in Germany. However in 1935, under political pressure, he moved to Austria where he ran a successful medical practice. Following the annexation of Austria by the Nazis, König was granted political asylum in the UK where he established the first Camphill community in 1939. König was the driving force behind the worldwide expansion of the Camphill movement. This engaging book combines König's autobiographical fragment, an introduction to König's life and works by Peter Selg, plus selected reminiscences written by two of König's colleagues Anke Weihs and Hans-Heinrich Engel. An inspiring journey through the life of an extraordinary individual, this book will be of interest to anyone wishing to learn more about König's life.
