This book examines the growing concerns surrounding the utility, sustainability, and advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and data governance.It looks at the critical role of governance in addressing the social, economic, and political reservations toward AI in three jurisdictions in Asia – namely, Singapore, China and India. The book aims to enhance greater understanding and coherence of what AI ethics and governance represents for Asian societies and hopes to encourage more constructive transnational dialogue. By mapping out and examining the normative challenges, the book study explores other possible regulatory frameworks for AI and data governance.This book will appeal to researchers and academics, AI practitioners, and industry professionals, researchers and academics interested in AI regulation and governance. Jane Loo is a current doctoral candidate and Professional Teaching Fellow at the University of Auckland researching platforms. She is the 2026 recipient of the Professor Brian Coote Memorial Scholarship and Singapore's Social Science Research Council Graduate Research Fellowship. Jane is also an external research fellow at the Centre for Digital Law (CDL).Nydia Remolina is Assistant Professor of Law at Singapore Management University and Deputy Director of its Centre for Commercial Law in Asia. Her research covers financial regulation, fintech and AI governance, drawing on over a decade of financial-sector experience. She holds a JSM from Stanford University.Sharanya Shanmugan is a former research associate at the SMU Centre for Digital Law. Her research interests lie in bridging the gap between policymakers and communities most affected by digital technologies. She has published work on collaborative approaches between youth and policymakers to strengthen online safety and privacy, as well as on community-driven frameworks for auditing AI systems and enhancing public trust in Singapore.
