    Beskrivning

Modern tropical agriculture faces the challenge of increasing crop productivity while preserving natural resources and adapting to climate change. Nutrient Management in Tropical Crops: Sustainable Practices and Innovations addresses this challenge by presenting current concepts, sustainable practices, and technological innovations in plant nutrition and nutrient management for tropical production systems. The book integrates knowledge from soil science, plant physiology, microbiology, and agronomy to provide a comprehensive understanding of nutrient dynamics in tropical environments. It discusses the physical and chemical characteristics of tropical soils, the role of organic matter and soil microorganisms in maintaining fertility, and strategies to improve nutrient use efficiency while reducing environmental impacts.Special attention is given to the contribution of nutrient management to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Topics include carbon sequestration, biological nitrogen fixation, crop–livestock integration systems, and the effects of major abiotic stresses such as drought and heat. The book also explores the importance of sustainable fertilization practices, and emerging approaches for nutritional diagnosis in high-yield cropping systems.Dedicated chapters examine the nutrition and fertilization of economically important tropical crops, including cotton, common bean, soybean, sorghum, maize, and sugarcane. In addition, the volume highlights the role of silicon in enhancing plant tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses and discusses recent advances in precision agriculture, including the use of sensors, digital technologies, and decision-support tools for fertilizer management.Written by specialists in plant nutrition and crop production, this book provides researchers, graduate students, agronomists, crop consultants, and agricultural professionals with an up-to-date resource on the principles and innovations shaping sustainable nutrient management in tropical agriculture.

    Mer om författaren

Renato de Mello Prado holds a PhD in Agronomy from São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil, and did his post-doctorate in Plant Nutrition at Universidad Córdoba, Spain and at Universidad Pública de Navarra, Spain. He is currently Professor at UNESP in Undergraduate and Graduate Studies (Plant Production / Soil Science), CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, Brazil) researcher and collaborator in other national and international universities. Supervised and co-supervised more than one hundred master's and doctoral students and more than thirty post-doctors. He has experience in plant nutrition, working in the teaching of the discipline and in the coordination of the Study Group on Plant Nutrition at Unesp (Genplant), which addresses the topics: studies of nutritional disorders, nutrient mobility, leaf nutrition, nutritional efficiency, silicon, leaf diagnosis and nutrition of different cultures. Published more than five hundred scientific articles in indexed journals.Cid Naudi Silva Campos is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), Brazil, and a Research Productivity Fellow of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). He earned his Ph.D. in Agronomy (Plant Production) from São Paulo State University (UNESP/Jaboticabal) and has extensive experience in international research collaborations projects. His research focuses on plant nutri-physiology, with a specific emphasis on the effects of nutrients and beneficial elements on the modulation of photosynthesis and secondary metabolism. In addition to leading the GECENP-UFMS research group. As a researcher-inventor with a filed patent in the field of agricultural inputs, he has a significant scholarly output, including numerous scientific articles and technical works in plant biochemistry, nutrition, and physiology. He is actively involved in academic mentoring, with vast experience supervising Master’s and PhD students in Agronomy.Gelza Carliane Marques Teixeira is an Assistant Professor at the São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil. She holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy (Soil Science) from São Paulo State University (UNESP) and completed postdoctoral training in Plant Nutrition. Her research focuses on plant nutrition, soil fertility, nutritional eco-physiology, and the use of beneficial elements, particularly silicon, to enhance crop performance and stress tolerance. She has experience in undergraduate and graduate education, supervision of students, and collaborative research projects in Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition. She has published scientific articles and technical works in national and international journals, contributing to advances in sustainable crop production and plant nutrition.
