Dissociation

Dissociation: A Contemporary Introduction is a comprehensive and insightful exploration of the concept of dissociation in psychoanalytic theory and practice.Clara Mucci offers a thorough historical overview, tracing the concept from its roots in the works of Freud, Janet and Ferenczi to contemporary neuroscientific understandings. Mucci's interdisciplinary approach, which integrates psychoanalysis, attachment theory, neuroscience and intergenerational studies, provides a unique and valuable perspective on this complex topic. By emphasising that only trauma of human origin leads to dissociative structures, Mucci challenges existing paradigms and offers a new framework for understanding severe psychopathology. The author's exploration of dissociation at both individual and collective levels, including its role in borderline disorders and the aftermath of genocide, offers fresh insights into this crucial area of study. This book will be an invaluable resource for psychoanalysts in practice and in training looking to uncover new ways of working with clients experiencing trauma and dissociation, as well as students and scholars of psychology, psychoanalysis and behavioural sciences.
