Beskrivning
This volume draws together chapters which represent some of the most up-to-date, cutting-edge research on the Second World War and on war and social change in the twentieth century. It characterises the Second World War as a mobile war of peoples and addresses the intersections between imperialism and race, the recovery of non-White experience, new colonial military histories, the relationship between home and fighting fronts, and extended temporal frameworks. The book is rooted in the conviction that the Second World War was a total war and that scholarship should reflect this reality. It integrates national histories with personal and global perspectives and, above all, addresses questions of racial and ethnic difference. By taking a transnational approach that draws upon the research of a diverse group of historians, Global Narratives aims to contribute to the burgeoning global scholarship which is resetting the scholarly agenda within Second World War Studies. This book sits at the intersection of Second World War Studies and Global Histories and is aimed at a broad academic audience. It will be of interest to social, cultural, and military historians as well as suitable for undergraduate and graduate students as a supplementary text which provides secondary reading.
